Tonneau Cover Recommendations

Instead of searching through multiple threads, maybe we can put all the recommendations and unrecommendations on one thread.

It's kind of difficult to make this a poll question, so regular posts will have to do.

Why did you purchase your cover, and what were the specifications you sought in your purchase.?

Any problems with the supplier and/or the manufacturer? Any problems with the cover? Does the cover meet your expectations? How were the installation instructions?

Please keep the categories separate.

Hard covers

and

soft covers.

I'll start it out - I wanted a hard cover that allowed me to access the greatest percentage of the bed.

I found that the BakFlip by BAK Industries has problems regarding water leaks. Not small water leaks, either; water leaks that will soak anything I have in the bed.

At best, the installation instructions left a lot to be desired.

After installing two of them, I found that BAK has apparently not solved the water leak problem. BAK has repeatedly promised to correct the problem, but after over a month of dealing with them, they have apparently not done so.

On the other hand, ordering through RealTruck made returning them a relatively painless and rapid procedure, and my full purchase will be credited.

My experience indicates that you should not buy the BakFlip.

Re: Tonneau Cover Recommendations

You're right. There are too many threads to go through to decide on a cover. I have spent a lot of time searching and still have not made up my mind. First Retrax, then Access, then BakFlip and after reading negatives, I am back to no decision. Please help me guys.

I am very happy with the Retrax. Installation was relatively easy. The canister does shorten the usable length of the bed for something like an ATV or motorcycle but that's not an issue for me. It is fairly watertight. There are some gaps in the front corners, but this can be made pretty waterproof with either weatherstripping or silicone sealant. I've not bothered as the small amount of water that gets in is not enough to matter to the cargo I carry.

The Roll-N-Lock for the Ridgeline is supposed to come to the market this month. I've checked into it, and it looks good, but I'm a little leery of buying the first model of anything.

I've talked to a person at the company, and I was treated very well regarding my inquiries. The final product is awaiting the completion of the instructions.

The company has an interesting comparison chart on its website.

Opinions, anyone?

Re: Tonneau Cover Recommendations

I've had the BakFlip for almost a year now in rain and snow and, yes, it leaks a little bit, but have not had anything 'soaked' because of it. I also notice that it lets dust in through the rear-top seal on unpaved roads which isn't nice. But, I really don't like the roll-up designs because of loss of valuable cargo space.

So, I'd recommend the BakFlip; it's pretty easy to install; it's very durable; it looks good; and if you aren't demanding a totally water-tight application it's a good value.

Have had the Retrax for 2yrs now and am completely satisified with it If you seal around the edge with silicone sealant and install the tailgate seal kit it is pretty well dust and water free

AW, I've been reading most of the reviews for quite some time now. The Tonneau that seems to have the least amount of complaints is the Retrax. I've seen two installed on Ridgelines and in my opinion truly add to its looks. If you search by brand name on this site it may help to single out a specific cover for you to study. After researching and seeing Retrax first hand, it is my choice. I will install it this weekend.

Tom, I don't expect a hermetically sealing cover. But there's a difference between totally water-tight and water rapidly leaking along the hinges. And this wasn't even in the rain; I just used less than 1/2 gallon of water over the entire surface area of the cover.
