Question Truck Cap for Ridgeline

I am looking at two different Ridgeline truck cap/camper tops. The LEER model and the ARE model. LEER is going for $1650 and the ARE is $1999. You can see both on their websites.

Anyone have an opinion on which is better?

Re: Truck Cap for Ridgeline

I have had both brands in the past. I generally prefer ARE over Leer due to OEM paint matching and how well the paint held up. Plus the local ARE dealer is a lot easier to deal with than the nearest Leer store...

Just looking at the pictures on the websites I suspect the ARE will have a better tailgate seal than the Leer. But the ARE has those styling "steps" or whatever they are, while the Leer is cleaner looking to me. This is one I could go either way on myself...but I would want to see both in person before deciding.

Haven't seen the ARE in person, just on the web. I went for the Leer because of the lines. Like the side windows better as they are larger.
Have no complaints after 2 months.

Re: Truck Cap for Ridgeline

I've been thinking about the A.R.E for my Ridge. It has sliding windows on the side instead of pop out vents. If we decide to camp in the back, we'll want the windows open for ventilation. I don't think the Leer would work so well for camping. Personal opinion.

Re: Truck Cap for Ridgeline

Take a look at the Raider Nomad III. IMHO it's the best looking of the three and I believe is the cheapest of the lot.

The A.R.E has a crank-out window, not sliding.

Re: Truck Cap for Ridgeline

Leer for a year in everything from 95F to -40C up and down I77-79 to Northern Ontario and have not had a problem! I love the extra space for stuff and would never go back to stock

Good luck with your search,
P
