Locking the tailgate

From looking around on the forum, it's become clear to me that the tailgate on the Ridgeline does not lock. I'm interested in getting a RidgeBak tonneau cover eventually, and in one thread it says that the cover locks to the rails, but that to be completely secure you have to lock the tailgate as well. I've looked at a few threads about tailgate locks, and looked at the instructions to install some of them, and I have to say I'm a bit overwhelmed. I'm not very good at do it yourself stuff and I'd be too afraid of messing something up if I tried to install one of these locks myself. I'm not even sure if I can install the tanneau cover myself. Will the Honda dealership install a lock and/or the tanneau cover for me? Does Honda have their own tailgate lock I can get installed? I really want to be able to lock things up securely in the bed of the truck.

Many posts on this topic. Just use the search function. Dyno-lock advertises on this site as well. Good luck and welcome to the Roc.

Re: Locking the tailgate

The tailgate does not lock.....the Honda OEM cover does have a lock, but it is not very secure....some here have made their own......some have installed the dynolock themselves......I am waiting for the dynolock that will work with the key fob.....it will lock the tonneau cover and work will the dual action tailgate....I have found two places that will install, one being the Honda dealer (which I would prefer)....this item is on backorder....I am in a waiting mode right now....also, as stated earlier, there are many detail threads about the non-locking of the tailgate....good hunting....

The Dynolock will work with the key fob. All you have to do is wire it like my $10 DIY lock.

Edit: I checked the dynolock website. Their instructions show how to wire it so it will work with the key fob.

I also checked out the $125 pricetag on this item. I think I'm going to get in the tailgate lock business. I can make mine for $10 including wiring. If I could sell em' for $50, I'd be making a killing.

I bet a bunch of manufacturers are haunting this forum, lurking around for some actual ideas that work. I could believe they saw what you did, and said, "Hey, we can do that!"
