Re: Rolbak Tonneau Cover

I also just ordered mine yesterday and was given the ROC discount. Mark from BAK was an ease to work with. I can't wait to get this on my RL. I think I'll have to order a tailgate lock and bed mat next.

Cool Re: Rolbak Tonneau Cover

Hello to all fellow readers.
I've been looking for a secure Tonneau Cover replacement for my Ridgeline. I currently have the OEM one and I dislike the fact that it leaks water all over my bed. I can't store any items in my bed in fear of water damage. I spoke to Honda's customer Service in CA. about this problem, and their responds was "What do you want us to do about it" and of course I requested a refund. You know the answer to that was "NO". I'm very disappointed with their customer service. I also own a Toyota. And their customer service is outstanding in comparison.
I like my Ridgeline, but if I would've know about the poor customer service, I think I would've declined my purchase with Honda.
So, I'm in search of secure water tight Tonneau Cover. If anyone has any comparison info. between the Retrax and the Bakflip covers, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You All and keep up the good work :-)

Re: Rolbak Tonneau Cover

Looks like several of us have the bakflip in route to us. I will report once it is installed and I give it a good water test.

Re: Rolbak Tonneau Cover

Well, Katrina, no tonneau cover of this type is going to be water tight. I'm surprised you wouldn't have known that. Just by looking at the design of the tonneau cover would have given you a hint that it wouldn't be water tight.

In any case, Honda service is at fault? And, Toyota is better? I can give you 1001 cases of bad service with Toyota, or Ford, or ...........

BTW, welcome to the ROC, Katrina. I know this is like one of your first posts, but when someone starts dissing Honda's service because of something that's questionable, I get a little excited.

Sure, it sucks that this particular Honda accessory is not designed well and that it costs and arm and a leg. I understand that. I was about to buy it when I purchased my Ridgeline over a year ago. When I saw it, I knew right away it was going to have problems with water getting in.

Having said all that, I was watching a co worker wash her Ridgeline that had an OEM tonneau cover. After the wash, there was very little water in the bed in a couple of places...... certainly not "all over the place." Do you have it sitting properly or installed properly?

Now for Honda service........... what did they do to get you upset?

What would Toyota have done differently?

Re: Rolbak Tonneau Cover

Sorry, Katrina. I just thought about what I posted and it was wrong of me to attack you the way I did. I just took the green pills my doc gave me for aggressive behaviour.

Re: Rolbak Tonneau Cover

Hi mugen1,

Well, I am happy to hear you took that green pill, for a moment there I thought I was speaking to a Honda employee. In fact after your rude comments in your original note I thought for sure you must work for Honda, cause that is the type of answers I am getting from them. To shed some light on my original comments, I in no way am bashing the Honda automobile. I did the homework, talked to people in sites like these, made the right inquiries, asked the right questions. The problem was that some of those answers came from Honda employees themselves. When I originally inquired about the cover, the HONDA SALESMAN told me it did NOT leak. Now looking back on the situation I realize, he was just trying to sell a vehicle and probably would have told me the car could fly if that was what I needed it to do. Since I explained to him how important it would be FOR ME, that the cover not leak and that it would be a deciding factor on me buying or not buying the car, he just plain lied. That is what has me so disappointed in Honda, when you have a superior automobile you stand behind your product 100%. When you need to LIE to sell it, that’s a big RED FLAG.
You asked if the product was installed correctly, Honda installed it....you tell me. They obviously don't know if it leeks or not, so should I trust they installed it right....you tell me.
This is only one of my issues with Honda. When I purchased the truck they said it would be ready for me to pick up in two weeks, I waited 3 weeks figuring it was Christmas time and things always seem to take longer around that time of year. At day 21 I called to ask where my truck was, they did not know who I was, or what I was talking about. Funny, they new exactly who I was when they took a nice hefty deposit and charged my credit card. Seems the salesman jumped ship and took my truck order with him
.....STRIKE 1
When the vehicle was ordered and ready for me to pick up....two weeks later, the back bed was all scratched up with deep scrape marks. A new salesman, we will just call him #2 said, "That’s what happens when you get the cover installed", it's normal.
I was not satisfied with spending a small fortune for a brand new truck with scrapes and scratches already built in
....STRIKE 2
Salesman #2 said come back in a week and we will replace those panels for you. Seven days later I returned to find out the panels would not be replaced, but they did have a way to fix it and it would be good as new.
Two days later I returned and was quite satisfied with the bed, the Honda repair guy was actually right, the back looked brand spanking new.
When the truck was pulled out and returned to me, right there and then I said..."WHAT HAPPEND TO MY DOOR"????
They said, we don’t know, it must have been like that when you dropped it off. My wife had to hold me back from strangling this guy. My drivers door had obviously been hit right smack in the center with, God only knows what. It was not hit by another car, but definitely banged with something big, the dent was the size of a half dollar and no one in the place knew what happened or where it came from....What a surprise!
...STRIKE 3
They kept the truck another couple of days while they had it fixed & repainted the door, God forbid they would have just replaced it with a new door, after all they were the ones that dented it in the first place.
Oh, and did I mention when I got my truck back, my CD’s, CD’s I made on my Mac computer were MIA
.....STRIKE 4
In all this time, I have had to fight for everything to be made right, starting with the original Sale, the scrapes on the bed, the door dent, the missing CD's, and I almost forgot to mention my registration information and new plate NEVER arrived because salesman #2 never sent in the information and after chasing him, then going to his manager after my temp plate had been expired for weeks finally took pity on me and handled it himself and within a day or two I had a plate for me.
AND lets not forget the first real rain storm we had, that was when I found out the back cover, you know the one salesman #1 told me would not leak....LEAKS!!!!!!
………STRIKE 5
I have been back and fourth with customer service reps., Honda complaint dept., managers, district managers, & Honda Corporate and the best they can say is "What do you expect me to do about it". The product is in no way as disappointing as the employees I have had to deal with. Their unprofessionalism is without a doubt their biggest handicap and if I did not love my Ridgeline as much as I do I would just drive it into the Hudson River just to be done with Honda forever.
Hey, by the way can you send me some of those green pills, they seemed to have worked for you and after my Honda experience I can use all the help I can get.
ED
Owner and operator of Katrina

I came on this forum expecting to find some helpful information from other Ridgeline owners. I am happy to say it has been very educational I have read so much good information; my biggest regret was not finding this round-table before my purchase, at best the information would have been accurate. I no longer wish to deal with Honda in any facet and that is why I have turned here, to fellow Ridgeline owners and asked the questions about the back cover.
So again I ask, to anyone willing to help me out….Is there a cover out there that doesn’t leak?

No.

not yet.

It is possible, but it would most likely end up costing quite a bit.

Re: Rolbak Tonneau Cover

I see some of the strikes are against the sales department. I find it hard to believe that Honda service would treat you like that. Especially the regional rep.

I don't think service like you describe is the norm with Honda. Maybe I am wrong.

In another thread (can't remember how long ago it was), there was a complaint about the same thing. The OEM tonneau cover not being water tight and the owner complaining of being outright lied to. I don't think it was you, but the complaint was the same nonetheless.

I think one member stated that they were told right from the start that the tonneau cover was not water tight. In fact, now that I think about it, I recall my salesman telling me not to get the tonneau cover. Wait until an aftermarket one comes out. I bought my Ridgeline over a year ago.
