Re: Good Gas Mileage

Hey Tcape - I've been waiting for someone to post a link to that one. I've been watching it develop, and get slightly more expensive as it goes along.
I think it is still somewhere under $30,000. With that kind of mileage, it could provide a return on investment. It is classified as a tri-wheel motorcycle. Though after seeing Mitchie's pictures, I would want to keep it in town as strictly a commuter vehicle.

This is a win/win. You're spending the extra three minutes in a Ridgeline!

Re: Good Gas Mileage

I don't know where all the people are driving to get 25 mpg.... but they ain't driving here.

My 06 RTL has 70,000 miles on it. Picked it up as a Certified Used Honda at 68K so I presume someone at Honda spent some time checking it over to extend the warranty to 100k.

Took off this morning at 0-dark-30 to drive down to Fresno (210 miles). Started late, figured I have to keep the needle posted at 80+ to make it there on time for a business meeting. Made it there, stopped and filled up and checked my mileage. Being a leadfoot Mr. Hyde got me 17.3 mpg. Filled up the tank, put Mr. Hyde away and made mild mannered Dr. Jekyl set the cruise control at 70 (speed limit) and keep it there for one hour of straight highway miles. Pulled into a gas station and topped off... and I only got 18 mpg!!!!

This mileage sucks. Don't get me wrong, I love the truck but this is worse than I imagined.

Sounds about right to me after 3 years and I still love it.

Re: Good Gas Mileage

I just made a 200 mile road trip from Indiana to Ohio and averaged 23.7 mpg. I took it easy and drove the posted speed limit on the highway (70 mph in Indiana and 65 mph in Ohio. I have an 08 RTL with about 4000 miles.

One fillup is not an indicator of overall fuel mileage. How do you know that when you "topped off", you got exactly the same amount of gas in that you started with on the previous tank? Keep a log over several tankfuls to find out what your real mileage is

Little boy asks museum guard "how old is that dinasour bone?"

Guard says "10,000 years and 2 weeks old son."

"Wow" says the little boy "how do you know it's age - down to the exact week?"

"Simple" said the Guard, "2 weeks ago when I asked how old it was they told me it was 10,000 years old."

I don't base conclusions on what I read. I base them on empirical evidence. Last winter, my average mpg dropped to around 18. I changed the air filter & it improved immediately to about 19.5. While 1.5 mpg doesn't sound like a bunch, on our trucks, it's around a 10% improvement. My dad's "beater" '91 Sentra was getting about 27 mpg. I changed the filter & went to 31. Again, about a 10% improvement.

Re: Good Gas Mileage

15,000 km, average 13.2 L per KM, best is 10.6L per KM... with winter driving, winter tires, summer driving summer tires, primarily highway KM at 110-120 KPH, cold weather, 1,200 km of towing, empty, full, sideroads, gravel roads, rain, sun, some hauling of rocks, the city driving is all heavy traffic. That's an average of just under 18 MPG on a USA gallon. Average of 18 MPG and the best is 21.3 MPG. Worst was 15.6 L per KM (10 MPG) towing in minus 15 celcius on winter rubber with only 1,500 KM on odomoter.
I'm alright with that.
What do I do to get that... light foot, accelerate easy, coast to the stops when I can. I control the AC and keep it on a low setting and keep the windows up on highway. I only punch if I have to pass in a hurry. I go slow in the city and enjoy the scenery. I have put in the occasional high test for loads and towing.
I'm alright with doing that to get the mileage I am getting.

All the passengers love riding in this truck.
