Re: Price of gas affecting your driving habits

Honey dos could be because of the housing market. My sister told me in Springfield, Mo (pop.400kish) that there is over 7000 homes for sale. Their agent said they only average 400 a month in sales so thats over a years worth of homes waiting to be bought there. Their home has been for sale for 15 months without at offer.

This is all across the US sadly. Same way in Phx but it might be a bit worse.

Re: Price of gas affecting your driving habits

Mark Salem is a well respected, ASA certified "Car Guy" that has his own radio show in the Phoenix area that I enjoy listening to. They asked him the other day about how to drive to save gas. His response was that around 1800 RPM is the sweet spot for most cars for getting the best gas mileage. The key is to keep the rpm's under 2000 which is not that easy to do on our Ridgelines. He also said that the brake pedal is equally important to consider. Try driving like you had no brakes and your gas mileage will increase. Another analogy he used was pretend like there is an egg between your foot and the gas pedal. Obviously that's a little extreme but in moderation, I think it's a good mentality to have.

Here is a link to his website. He has a lot of great information in the FAQ's.

Re: Price of gas affecting your driving habits

I can see that. My Ridge seems to like 1800 RPM as the sweet spot for best mileage -- between 62 and 63 MPH -- the slowest that I can live with. I don't have a ScanGuage though to get more accurate readings.
