Honda Merges Tough With Classy For New Ridgeline Ads [10.5.7]

Quote:
"TOUGH MEETS CLASSY" IS THE theme of a TV spot for Honda's 2008 Ridgeline pickup. The ad begins with a ladies' tea party in an elegant garden bistro. Dishes clink, and tea is poured into cups as the camera pans across elderly matrons deep in conversation. Then, in strolls a sweating, gritty, leather-clad Chuck Norris, looking ready to take names.

Thus, the dichotomy message Honda is floating for the 2008 version of its hot-selling pickup crossover: a pickup can be tough but refined at the same time.

Honda's campaign--which argues that the Ridgeline combines muscle and ruggedness with intelligence, class, spaciousness and handling--includes four 15-second TV spots, each positing a marriage of opposites to talk up specific vehicle attributes.

I just saw the ad in a link in a different thread and while cool, it should have shown Chuck Norris getting in a Ridgeline.

I'm sorry, but these advertising guys are NOT getting it. These ads have no follow through. After watching, have they even shown you why you should want or need the Ridgeline? Just because it says "Honda" means zero to truck finatics. Appeal to the "dark side" of truck world; big car/SUV buyers. It's a 4 door luxury foreign El Camino, Honda style. The ride, the comfort, the utility, the performance in inclimate weather, the safety................geesh, I could go on and on!!! Come on ad guys, give this truck something special. THINK, dammit!

The previous was a commentary from a private individual, and in no way reflects the opinions of ROC members and their immediate families....thank you

If I was working for them, I would have s silent commercial.... Spoken word is unnecessary, let the video of all the RL can do speak for itself.... Honda are you listening?... I know you are....

I think all those ads suck. Just the mere fact that they're trying to pawn off the RL as some rugged tough offroad beast is pathetic. It's a torqueless luxury like SUT, not a mud flinging haul anything monster truck. I dunno, i just personally think they're using terrible selling points to attract potential buyers.

How much more clearance do your Nismo's have over your lifted Ridgeline?

Total clearance is 10 1/2" at the rear differential. If the published clearance of the RL is 8.2" then they would be similar, but that doesn't really tell the story. Full skid plates, taller tires (265/75/16) and the vitals tucked out of the way. The lifted RL has similar clearance generally, but the wheel support arms (don't know technical term) are unchanged by the lift. They are very vulnerable in the situations I get into. It's plain to see why the RL rides so well. The front is more dramatic. Certainly different animals for different uses. The top is the RL, the bottom the NISMO. I'm off topic here. Sorry.
