Honda to manufacture Ridgeline pickup at Alabama plant [2.29.8]

Quote:
Honda will begin making the Ridgeline pickup at its Alabama assembly plant next year, another sign of activity for a booming state auto manufacturing industry that has seen its jobs increase 80 percent since 2001.

The Japanese automaker informed employees of the new production plans during meetings at its Lincoln plant. Honda now builds two vehicles at the facility: the Odyssey minivan and the Pilot sport utility, which has been redesigned.

Well, that should put an end to the rumors that the Ridgeline might be discontinued. I'm originally from Alabama, so it's nice to see it's going to be the new home for Ridgeline production.

Alabama is a "right to work" state. That is why there is a 80 increase in auto production. Cheap labor.

If that's the case, I wonder when Arizona will get its own car manufacturing plant. We have, statistically, a low labor cost. But, we have one of the highest costs of living. It sucks.

I think that "cheap" is relative only to the grossly overpriced stuff up there at the Big 3:

MoosePond, what is the source of the data and when is it from? Any idea what the impact is on recent changes in the USA re: restructuring of labour costs?

I think your chart was made up by professors. Teachers in my area make 83,000 just in salary.

Teachers in my area don't make 1/2 that much. We have friends retired from GM in their early 50's that are drawing more per month than I get from my pension, 401K, and SS combined. No wonder cars cost so much!!! Don't get me wrong, I do belive in trade unions, the UAW/GM/Ford/Mopar have taken it a step tooooooooooooo far!!!!
