Re: "Unusual" cloth seat wear in RTS?

I didn't have the crease. I had fuzzy wear on the outer edge of the seat & marks that looked like scratches. My dealer fixed it under warranty.

I can't believe I'm explaining this...

I'm average height 5'10", 250lb and I get in using the following method.

1. Put right leg in first.
2. Proceed to set my right cheek down first.
3. I then gently SLIDE over and bring my left leg in at the same time.
4. Once in I immediately close and lock the door.
5. Then I buckle up.

I get in like this because I have mild arthritis in my knees and have a temperamental back at times.

Now, I've tried the "S2000" entry method in my Ridgeline after getting into my "future" car. With that, I had to put BOTH legs in first then sort of drop down into the seat. With the Ridgeline, that is VERY awkward to do.

Plus, I'm not the only driver of my truck. My Mom has been driving it a lot recently to help move things around and while she has been waiting to get her tags on her Camry. Because her own very BAD back she HAS to get in like I described above. So, if this is expected to be "normal" wear I'm not very happy.

X-BRAUN? I'm not some form of dysfunctional electric shaver! I may need to shave (and get a haircut, BTW) but I'm not a shaver or a barber. Unless you want me to shave your beard...

My seat is messed up as you can see by the pic. Do you think that Honda would replace the fabric?

If it is within the warranty period, I'd sure as hell try. I've NEVER seen this kind of FABRIC wear in a vehicle. It is like they didn't build the seat bottoms right or put enough tension into the fabric when battening it down.

Exclamation Re: "Unusual" cloth seat wear in RTS?

Will warranty cover an 06 with 45,000 miles? I got an estimate today for swapping the drivers seat with the passenger seat and having the problematic side foam replaced at $150. Yes I'm moving the problem fabric to the passenger seat where it will not get more wear.

The trim shop guy said the fabric is a Ford truck fabric. He said the problem is because of weak foam for the side seat location. Maybe Honda bought some Ford remnants for the first year brown interior. My 01 Ford Escape had 150,000 miles on it and the interior showed less wear than this two year old Ridge. So I wish it was using Ford fabric. Also, I got an estimate for covering the door and console fabric in a nice thick vinyl that matches the plastic door and interior trim at $300.

Since I bought my 06 Ridge used a couple months ago, I doubt I will get any help from the dealer.

Any ideas?

Yes mine is the classic brown that wears so quickly.

Re: "Unusual" cloth seat wear in RTS?

I could post a photo that would exactly match Chefelvis. I am about 5-11 and 165LBS. I purchased mine new in July of 2005. I am at about 45,000 miles. I mentioned it to my Dealer's Service Rep when I had my last oil change. I have also mentioned it to him previously. He didn't agree to replace it, but he did make a note of it in my file, on their computer system. I wish I could persuade the Dealer to replace it under some kind of goodwill coverage.

Re: "Unusual" cloth seat wear in RTS?

This is a common problem with the drivers seat. My drivers side seat cushion did the same thing. I think it's due to very flimsy foam underneath, so it doesn't matter whether you have leather of cloth. In my case, my RTL has leather.

I personally think that more people should complain about this, so it becomes a TSB. Honda replaced my lower drivers seat cushion, only after I complained about it on 3 separate visits. The first 2 times I complained about it, they told me it was normal wear. Obviously, this is clearly NOT normal wear.

My drivers seat cushion...

Smile Re: "Unusual" cloth seat wear in RTS?

I think FORD would really like to know more about Honda's interior faults. They are on a major advertising campaign to attack Honda and Toyota over quality issues. I had an Explorer with 150,000 miles and the driver’s seat was better than the Ridge at 43,000 and an Escape with 150,000 that was also in better condition than the Ridge.

Honda interiors remind me of the poor quality interiors that were on the late 60s and early 70s Chrysler products.

Ask Plymouth about what a poor quality interior does for brand perception?

Is there anybody from Honda listening to issues reported on this site?

Re: "Unusual" cloth seat wear in RTS?

Making progress here on the seat repair front. Today I visited with another trim ship owner who has an automotive fabric book with the brown cloth fabric that is wearing to badly on my Ridge. She said the cushions are not interchangeable between left and right sides.

She is going to get a price for repairing the excessive wear on the bottom and the back of the drivers seat.

Stay tuned for more details tomorrow evening.

Re: "Unusual" cloth seat wear in RTS?

Are there any Ridge owners with running boards and the excessive seat wear problem?

Are there any owners without running boards that also experience the sear wear problem?

My Ridge has the Honda running board and the excessive driver sear wear problem. I can see how the running board may be contributing to my seat wear problem.
