Meeces to Pieces

So I finally managed to get around to washing the RL over the weekend - this Ohio winter has been ridiculous in regard to keeping the vehicles clean. Anyway, while putting the rubber mats and ice scraper back in the trunk (I'm thinking winter is actually over....), I happened upon the fluffiest little mouse nest you've ever seen. The assorted towels (paper and cotton) I keep there for the odd window cleaning / bird drop maintanance were nicely shredded and piled over about a third of the trunk itself. After donning my hazmat outfit, I started in on the nest removal. No mice, and curiously, very little of the poop bombs which you'd expect. Pulled the tire tray out and.... nothing. Absolutely clean back there.

Putting aside the "aaah" factor of the little bastards birthin' babies in my truck, I find it hard to believe that they mananged to get in around the seal. The tub itself is bone dry, with the plug very much intact. So coming in around the seal remains the only explaination. And to top it off, this is an every day driver, sitting only on the occasional Saturday. Anyone else with a similar experience?? And by the way, moth balls have now been strategically placed, lest they tell their friends.

In the trunk area where the spare tire sits when stowed are two vents that allow the air to escape when you close your trunk. I bet the little bugger got in through there.

If you remove the spare tire and storage tray from the trunk and look at the very back, you will see the vents, one loctaed on each side up at the very back of the storage are.

My grandson found a good size tree frog nestled very comfortably inside the closed door on the body just below the RH front door hinge, I also have no idea how or why it ended up there.

My company exhibits at numerous trades shows. For the last one at Phoenix, my boss shipped his golf clubs out in one of the booth shipping boxes. He had been complaining about mice in his house. When we opened the boxes in the Phoenix Convention Center, there was mouse poop in the display box. Unpacking the booth pieces, I caught a fleeting glimpse of something running off to the next booth over. His golf bag had mice!

Maybe they got into your trunk by hitchhiking in something else you put in there?

I had a mouse clog up an air cleaner in my old RX-7... Car died and wouldn't start. Had it flat bedded to the garage where they pulled mice chunks and replaced the filter. Oddly, the car ran fine after that...

Re: Meeces to Pieces

You guys are so lucky with your little Mickey Mouse Stories.
Now let me tell you what one Rat did back in the 90s.
I live smack dab in the heart of the city so we have some rat problems from time to time.
I park my car in rear of my house so this day I went out to go pick up my nephew from school. As said this was back around 97 I had my 94 Accord then. Anyway I get in the car to go pull the car up a few feet & get all kind of brake warning lights in the car. I thought I had massive brake failure I checked the for fluid leaks none found. The brake pedal felt normal so I drove slow to get my nephew . The next mournig I took it to the Honda Dealer they called me back & said you have a critter living in your car we found chicken bones in the engine. I knew it was a rat when they said critter it had chewed the wires that tell you about your brakes system ABS,Parking, ect. The cost to replace this was about $400 the dealer did it for me for around $280,
Thiis has also happen to one of my neighboors. But on the TV news last year they had something about this same thing the rats just love to eat wires in cars. I have also found bones in my Acura TL engine.
