Mouse Chewed Hole In Front Seat

Add me to the growing number of owners who had a mouse loose in the truck. The Ridge and Pilot are stored in the garage with the windows often open, partially or fully. Well the furry bastard visited both verhicles the other night, leaving solid and liquid 'calling cards' on the floormats. On the Ridge, it chewed a small hole in the seat. What are my options for repair of the hole? Auto upholstery shop or one of those vinyl repair kits at auto parts stores?

Hey BC,

Yuor seat covers can be had at the local Honda dealer or you can contact an auto apolstery shop and have them replace / repair your seat cover. OR, Wetoakley (SP?) seat covers are quite nice but pricey.

Lucky it was only a mouse. The people up the block left their car door open for a moment when taking groceries in and then came out and closed the door without looking inside. They did not see the racoon that had snuck inside. The next morning when they came out, the entire inside of their car was ripped to shreds and the insurance company ended up totalling the car - a nice new Volvo V70 wagon.

Now that's something you don't see everyday. I think I'd like to trap a black bear in my Ridge, see what might happen. Or a rabid badger.

Re: Mouse Chewed Hole In Front Seat

Many years ago, my mom had a 1980 Pontiac Phoenix with the vinyl bumpers, much like the Ridgeline. My Doberman Pinscher puppy developed a craze for chewing on the corners of the bumpers. I had to rub turpentine on the bumper corners daily till the dog got over the desire to chew on the bumpers. I'll never forget how the body shop guy laughed when he saw the chewed up bumper corners. We managed to repair the bumpers -- though there were still some teeth marks under the repainted area.

Do you store firewood in your garage? Mice in vehicles is common in this instance.

That's funny, kwoodman. I live in South Florida; not much need for firewood; except to clunk a mouse/rat or two.

Little update...my Honda Dealer can order a leather cover for the seat bottom at $375 and will charge another $260 to install it. My comprehensive deductible on my insurance policy is $300. I have a guy, Dr. Tear, coming over next week to give me an estimate to patch the hole. His preliminary figure off the top of his head is around $300.

So this will be an easy decision if his estimate holds out. If I am going to fork over three 'Big Ones' I prefer to have new leather. The insurance company would pay the balance. Just for yucks, my wife and I may try one of those patching kts from an auto parts store just to experience DIY leather repair.

Re: Mouse Chewed Hole In Front Seat

Saying this nicely, but why do people think that just because their cars are in their garages that they're safe from the world? Roll windows up, lock doors, even in your garage...
