Fan speed indication when not on AUTO?

If I have the climate control in auto, the fan speed indicator doesn't show. I believe that's normal as the system varies the speed as needed. I've been wondering why when I hit the mode button to take it out of auto (defrost for exp), I still don't get an indicator of how fast it's blowing. I have to manually change the speed before it shows up. Is this normal and does anyone know the reason for this?

Re: Fan speed indication when not on AUTO?

If I read the manual correctly, in auto mode the selected tempurature is a thermostat temp and the truck keeps the cab at the selected tempurature and when you are in a fan mode it blows air at the tempurature selected. Is this correct or did I read this wrong?

it appears that when you switch from "auto" to any mode, the truck still maintains the "auto" fan speed based on the tempurature selected until you choose a fan speed. Has anyone else noticed this?

Re: Fan speed indication when not on AUTO?

Everything is in auto until it is changed, as far as I can tell. So, if you manually do the fan, everything else will vary in order to keep the temp set.

To test...on a hot day, turn the AC to off. The fan speed will increase in an attempt to cool off the cab even though it will be physically impossible.

I think the owners manual refers to this as semi-auto mode, where some auto settings are retained while others are overridden manually.
