Just a thought for the moderators

Hello,

I realize I am the newbie here, but just an opinion. I belong to several car fora as well as fora dedicated to motorcycles, and other high speed low drag type equipment. Most of the sites I visit have a lot less posting categories. For instance, they might have categories for 1) General car related issues 2) General car technical issues 3) Off-topic issues.

Your site has me jumping all over the place trying to keep up with all of the active topics. Have you ever considered narrowing the bandwidth a bit? WIth fewer posting categories, you might find the topics are more cohesive, less confusion about where to post, and you will probably find it easier to keep track of new posts.

Just a thought.

Re: Just a thought for the moderators

Nox,
Get cozy with the "New Posts" function in the middle of the top banner. It simplifies your efforts. The moderators have just added another useful function at the bottom of each thread where you can hop right to similar posts. I'm very happy with the organization and easy use of this website. I respectfully disagree about having less topic areas. We have too many interests to cram into 2-4 categories. Sometimes we get off topic or don't pick the most accurate topic heading to post in. Enjoy the ride, online and off.

I agree for the most part. I've never seen another forum that doesn't have a general discussion area. Very strange and hard to deal with in my opinion.

As for the "new posts" function. Until vBulletin releases v3.5 that has a true database of read posts, the new posts feature is seriously flawed like every other vBulletin install. Hopefully when 3.5 is released it will correct this long running major problem. If you rely on the new posts function you will miss many new posts.

Re: Just a thought for the moderators

Perfect example...

What's the sub-forum with the most threads and posts? Miscellaneous

That's what happens when you don't have any kind of general discussion area. A forum that has the most activity in the miscellaneous sub-forum is obviously mis-directed.

Don't get me wrong... I really like this forum, but it is not organized efficiently.

Re: Just a thought for the moderators

"miscellaneous" should have the most posts...........its the "general discussion"
are of this site...........this site is a work in progress. ive noticed tmac has changed it since i first jumped on in may by adding similar topic options at the bottom of threads. noticed new topic headings added,,,,,,,,,,its alot of information but it beats some of the forums i have seen since joining this site.

Re: Just a thought for the moderators

Another feature which is hobbled is search. It's too simple. But that has little to do with how the site is organized. It's the software.
