Re: New Mystery Noise

Update- I reported this clunking noise coming from the right front wheel well when encountering uneven surfaces, especially at highway speeds. It was obvious enough for my wife to even notice (she typically shrugs off my claims of noises, rattles, etc on my vehicles). Well, as quickly as this problem seemed to pop up, it appears to have disappeared. I've used a particularly bumpy section of interstate near my house two consecutive evenings with no signs of the noise. This is very weird. Obviously, if it was a loose shock/strut, the noise wouldn't come and go, would it??

Re: New Mystery Noise

Yes, very odd. Maybe a piece off road trash got stuck in the wheel well and it got knocked off?

Re: New Mystery Noise

I thought about road debris or rocks or something. It really sounded like metal on metal and it was definitely coming from an area outside of the cab. I'll keep listening and hope that I never hear it again.

Re: New Mystery Noise

Keep us posted. If there's one thing that I can't stand, it's wierd noises on a vehicle. I've had my Ridge about a month now, and I just went over the 1,000 mile mark...so far so good!

Re: New Mystery Noise

I have a similar noise it's been getting worse. It happens all the time for me now (3000 mi). It's not trash or things in the trunk. I'm sure it's connected to the steering somehow. Somebody mentioned a sticky spring in the strut assembly but I'm still searching. "Clunking" really does describe it best.

Re: New Mystery Noise

If you start your vehicle, leave it in park, and turn your steering wheel full left and full right, do you hear the "clunk, clunk, clunk"? If you answer yes.... it is likely one of the front struts.

hey skywalker, does it necessarily do it each time you cut the wheel? mine does it once, then no more when in park..........but it does it every time truck sits a while.

Re: New Mystery Noise

If it is one clunk after sitting a while, I believe that is the ABS check described in other posts which is normal. The problem I experienced with the strut was intermittent, but when it did happen, you could feel it in the steering wheel and it would occur multiple times when cranking the steering wheel. Hope that helps.

Re: New Mystery Noise

2 different threads about the front end noise with the same people cross talking on them ? Can we pick one and cancel or merge the other ?
