Denver area help (real estate)

We had so much fun this year in breck we want to move there. Probably not Breck but close enough to do the weekends. Anyone in
Denver area know of the good school districts with houses in the price range of 200 - 275. Also we are open to talking to a good Realtor in the Denver area. The job that I would more than likely take is in the Englewood area. Any Realtor's that want to talk just pm me and i will give you my contact info

Re: Denver area help (real estate)

no one? I need some advice on the schools. I can search all over the internet but they will tell me what I want to hear. I want honest opinions if I could get them. I have a meeting with my boss next week to talk about the transfer. All I'm looking for is an idea or two.

Re: Denver area help (real estate)

I am totally in love with CO. I teach at a nationally recognized k-12 private school and unless I could find a similar school out there I could not afford to leave. I want to break the cycle that I grew up in and give my girls the best education possible. So, for at least 14 more years, I will teach at a school where education is first rate, oh, and gives a discount to faculty, it ain't cheap. I will always toy with moving, and I look quite often. I have not run across a school there with an opening for me. I teach photography and digital graphics which is quite a rarity for a k-12 school, let alone a position open for that.
I go out there each summer to take part in workshops at Anderson Ranch in Snow Mass, or nearby NM at the Santa Fe workshops. I have traveled all over the state and feel that you have to be in a metro area to find variety in schools. I am sure that there are good schools in Denver, even private ones. My view of public school is tainted by the offering here in TN, but that does not mean that there aren't good ones. Just because you find a school in an affluent area does not mean it will be the best. Quite the opposite is true here.
Look for magnet schools or school that specialize, as they tend to draw a faculty that has a passion for the subject. However that does not mean that all non magnet public schools are not worth looking at. There should be published data of test scores and % of graduating success, but those numbers can be skewed. NAIS, National Association of Independent schools, can be a good resource for private schools. You can also search for private schools by state. Most schools now have websites and can also give you a flavor of its strength.
Happy hunting, and good luck with the move.

Re: Denver area help (real estate)

I live in Lakewood, its on the westside of town.I have lived here since 1973.One thing to keep in mind is Denver has a lot of traffic,a trip to Breck on I-70 during ski season can take 2-3.5 hours!Theres alot of people here in the front range. This is a great place to live.I don't know anything about the schools, sorry. The weather is nice,a handfull of snowstorms in the winter, and a few hot days during the summer. There's alot to do here.

Re: Denver area help (real estate)

If we were to move down to the flatland from Conifer, I think we'd look at Littleton and Golden. Both have excellent schools and great neighborhoods. From Littleton, you could go the back way to Breck - US-285 to CO-9, and avoid I-70 traffic.

Re: Denver area help (real estate)

In gnereal, most districts in the Denver area are good. I'd stay away from Denver City district and schools and the east/southeast side. Cherry Creek is really good, a fairly affluent area of the city. Have friends who teach in Adams 12, the north side of town. The district overall is good, but there are parts/schools that are rougher than others.

Re: Denver area help (real estate)

Thanks for all the replies.

We have researched this like crazy. I don't think I can afford to live in Cherry creek area, unless someone has a garage apartment for 4 (2 kiddos , wife, and myself). I am under the understanding that you can goto what ever school you desire. Is that within the county or the city. I would like to be up north but after seeing everything about the drive times (not necessarily from the site but others)because I would likely be working in the southern part of Englewood. So I think we want to be on the south side to not make the drive time so awful. So that is probably Douglas county. Parker and Highland ranch are the most probable. We are looking for those types of communities if we can't find anything we like and can afford in those areas. Any more suggestions?

I left Denver back in 1990 due to a job loss. It was my adopted home for a decade. I loved Denver back then but it has changed dramatically in the 18 years since I left. Great climate, great sports town and great scenery that is now hampered by urban sprawl. Houses on top of houses, tiny lots, privacy fences everywhere and you will be truly lucky to find a home with a clear view of the beautiful Rockies. While I would love to retire to the west (we're in Central VA now), I would look at a lot of places before returning to Denver. Having said all that, anyplace in the south burbs of Denver has always been more desirable that the other directions. Douglas County is nice especially if you can work in Englewood vs. downtown. Good luck. Enjoy Colorado if/when it happens.

Re: Denver area help (real estate)

Is Colorado Springs an option? You don't have to go through the Eisenhower funnel with the rest of Denver trying to get to the slopes, and distict 20 schools are very highly rated...

Re: Denver area help (real estate)

Is is an option if that district has a position that I would take. I did have a meeting with my VP of the southern group yesterday. We talked and he suggested Co springs as an option. He really doesn't want me to leave the southern group but if I want to move he doesn't want me to the leave the Company all together. He did tell me that if that is something I really wanted to do he would make sure that the money would work. So needless to say I was offered a raise to stay. I am a little in limbo from his offer. We really think we would love Denver , we like Tulsa and his offer is basically the same as what I would be making in Denver. We are very confused.
