Help! Nosise from engine compartment

Recently, I noticed a noise. I am having a hard time determing where the noise is coming from. It is definitely in the engine compartment. Here is the scenario.

Th Ridgeline is not used or operated for more than 8 hours. After starting the car and driving about 50 feet, I hear a engage/disengage type sound. Almost like a compressor is being engage or disengaged. I do not have the heat or A/C on. The sound is only heard once then it goes away.

Has anyone heard this noise. It is slight, but noticeable.

Thanks.

It's likely the ABS performing a self-check and it's s'posed to do that.

And if it suddenly stops making the noise anymore but something starts to smell kinda funny, you might want to open the hood and look around for a couple of half-cats!

Actually, I sometimes notice the same thing. I think that ridged is correct.

Oh, and welcome aboard RidgeBoyRTL!

It probably is the ABS calibration. The auto door lock also clicks when you reach about 9 mph, whether you have it set or not.

Re: Help! Nosise from engine compartment

Is there a way to determine that is what the noise is?

Also, I have an '50 Pilot. I do not recall hearing this noise. But I will check again.

Thanks.

Do you hear the noise again, after the intitial one when the Ridge is cold? If the noise is present only after the Ridge has been sitting for quite some time, it's almost a sure bet that it's the ABS.

Re: Help! Nosise from engine compartment

I only notice the noise once after startup and the vehicle is in motion. I do not recall hearing it again, but will check tonight on my ride home.

Re: Help! Nosise from engine compartment

I have been on the forum for about 6 months now and I was wondering at what point all the discussions that we had about noises and what not when I was a newbie would come full circle and start up fresh again and the answer is about every 6 months. Just the nature of how the forum mechanics works I think with the older threads being pushed down and out of sight out of mind. This noise you describe is ABS check as others have said above. Just be on lookout for the noise that does not go away from almost the same area and occurs when going over bumps and that is the possible strut failure curse.

Re: Help! Nosise from engine compartment

Many thanks to all of you. Last thing I wanted is any problems with the Ridge.

I have noticed the noise somewhere between 5 to 9 mph. I believe the noise is the ABS doing a self-check. Noise is only heard once.

Whew, glad this is all it is. I do not recall Honda mentioning this in any of the manuals I have. Has anyone seen anything documenting this?

No documentation from Honda about this check. There will eventually be nothing that will be hidden about this truck if this forum has anything to say about it.
