Anyone used the trunk as a cooler?

Just curious if anyone has used the trunk as a cooler. Did it work? I would think the lack of insulating qualities of the bed wouldn't really make it a very good cooler. I would think ice would melt quite quickly if you had to drive for very long on a hot, sunny day. Anybody give it a try over Memorial Day?

Re: Anyone used the trunk as a cooler?

I have used it for tailgating at Giants game. Just day use type of thing, and you are right....the ice melts pretty fast. I would not use it for anyting other than a day trip. Not tomention, it is so big, thatit takes a lot of ice to get the job done....but it worked and I will definitely do it again!!!!! But if I was going camping, I would pack a normal ice chest/cooler.

Pictures are what you need. It may not be the best cooler but it is the "coolest"

Re: Anyone used the trunk as a cooler?

I thought the ridgeline came standard with a lockable cooler in the bed not a lockable trunk. thats what the drain plug is for.

got my RL last week have yet to use it for the desired purpose, but can you say beach trip?

Re: Anyone used the trunk as a cooler?

i was thinking of doing something like that when i go camping, but since the trunk doesn't have some sort of foam insulator, i was going to lay some type of insulating type in the trunk, then line it with a pvc or plastic sheet liner. like a blanket to keep the temp down. That should insulate some and don't have to worry about going over bumps or ditches when driving. its an idea that hasn't been proven yet or its feasable.

That looks about right. Now you under-21 yr olds out there, do not do this as you go to the drive in movies with your buddies!
