Re: Shovelhd media/nav upgrade

Congrats on the installation. My truck came with a Kenwood Kenwood DDX8017 DDIN head unit, but it's also two years old so it doesn't quite have the graphics yours does. I don't know if the remotes are that much different, but mine fits, sideways, in the compartment below the radio. It also fits fine in the "not an ashtray."

I still haven't even begun to figure out half of what his unit can do, but I can play DVD's, CD's and listen to Sirius radio on it.

As for the Sirius antenna. Did you install it that way becasue you already had an XM antenna in place. When I added the Sirius module to the unit, I just rant the antenna up the passenger side A-arm and then tucked it between the roof and the headliner. I get great reception and don't have another external antenna.

Re: Shovelhd media/nav upgrade

I need to post some updated pics. I permanently moved the processor control unit to the center console bottom cubby. The DDX8019 remote is larger than Rusty's and it would fit sideways if I didn't have the remote sub gain control in there.

I have no idea how many hours this took. At least a hundred.

My biggest issue are the interior rattles. I keep chasing them and they keep reappearing. I also need to do the Big Three as at full tilt, the voltage drops enough at the sub amp input to shut it off.

I used a custom made Sirius to XM antenna adapter to enable my OEM XM antenna to tune Sirius.

Metra makes speaker adapters for Honda speakers if you want an HU powered plug-and-play hookup. Steering wheel controls have been covered here ad infinitum. Search for steering wheel control.

My system has the following functions:

HD Radio/AM-FM radio
Sirius satellite radio
Analog broadcast TV
CD player
DVD player with Dolby Digital 2.0
USB device player
full speed iPod interface
Game player interface
Garmin navigation

I probably forgot something.

Re: Shovelhd media/nav upgrade

Shovelhd, thanks for your info on this before. One question remains at this point, how did you bring your antenna up from below the dash to the top?
Thanks again.

Which antenna? HD Radio? GPS? Sirius?

Good points, I am the one with the Pioneer D3 in the ridgeline with the antenna question.

Re: Shovelhd media/nav upgrade

Shovelhd,
Thanks for putting this thread together, it is a great reference. I had received a HD Radio with USB, Aux In, Blue Tooth, MP3, etc. and found the stock antenna severely lacking. I bought and installed the Shark Attack II antenna you recommended. The overall radio FM reception is much better and HD radio comes in perfectly.

My new antenna is installed where the factory satellite radio antenna would be, right in front of the 3rd brake light. I also ran the antenna cable and power wire down the passenger side "A" pillar. There sure is a lot of trim to remove the get the headliner down to drill the hole and run the cables. Fortunately, it goes back together in about half the time it takes to take it apart. I am not sure that I would have tackled this install if you had not posted the steps along the way for your install. Thanks again for for the tips in your thread.

Regards,
Chuck
