AVN design: Audio, video and navigation all reside within the same unit, without extra receivers. The dual-disc design means you can run navigation and watch DVDs without having to switch back and forth from disc to disc.

Color screen: The AVN 5500 features a full color screen with touch-navigation technology. Split screen displays, variable map scales and multiple search modes make this GPS receiver one of the easiest to use.

Voice prompted guidance: The GPS receiver will make audible prompts as you drive to your destination, so you can keep your eyes on the road.

Massively compatible: This receiver has more ways than ever to listen. It is compatible with CD, CD-R/RW, MP3, DVD, DVD-R and DVD-RW. It is SIRIUS satellite radio- and HD radio-ready as well, and even packs a standard AM/FM radio.

iPod-ready: The optional Eclipse iPC-106 Interface Adapter enables the AVN 5500 to play music from your iPod. In addition, the unit will charge the iPod’s battery while connected. The adapter is only compatible with iPods with a dock connector.

High quality audio: This receiver is equipped with a MOSFET internal amplifier, which runs cooler and more efficiently for the best performance over periods of heavy use. It has a strong 5V pre-out and a 5-mode soundfield control system, 9-band EQ and listening position selector.

TV tuner-ready: You can tune local, over-the-air TV stations on the AVN 5500 when the unit is connected to the optional Eclipse TVR105 TV tuner unit.

Heightened security: The Eclipse Security Network, or ESN, provides an extra layer of security to your investment. You can use a memory stick or CD to set up your receiver’s security.

Video output: Want to connect a rear-view camera to help with parking? This receiver comes with a video output built in.

Re: So Im about to pull the trigger on a aftermarket nav. Opinions welcome

If it says sirius ready, will My XM still work ( i have a yr subscription now )

Now the eclipse and kenwood 6019 are the same price one at eclipse 1699 kenwood 1699 from crutchfield

the discontinued model is about 1100.00 from an online vendor via price grabber

My only concern with getting the discontinued model from a online vendor is he warranty> the online vendor from pricegrabber.com specifically states that manufactures warranty is good and they even offer thier own so i want to think im good with that,

anyone have any opinions on thse units. I dont want pioneer the z1 is wayy too much for me.

Also if you guys know of anywhere to get these cheaper please by all means let me know.

I disagree. Get a nav in the dash. These little trendy garmins and tom tom's will look like iMAC's do now and IPOD's in another 3-4. Go for a nice clean clutter free install, mobile devices usually end up staying in one place because of the maintenance issue.

Re: So Im about to pull the trigger on a aftermarket nav. Opinions welcome

in 3 or 4 ?? an in dash system is nice but how easy is it to update? upgrade? what if you wreck your car? or want to sell the car? or you would have a rental and need the GPS? ORRR what if you want to sit it on your table and plan out a trip step by step. Plus there is the cost? almost 2 to 3 times more than a Garmin. I have both a garmin 340 and a 550. i should have stayed with the 340 as it was more than enough to get me from A to B with ease. So I gave the 340 to my sister and she loves it.
For Example my other sister has a 2006 TL with NAV. Acura has a great nav system don't get me wrong but the Garmin 340 was its match in every way. and for under $450.00 its a steal http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...620060-7883310

i have had the tomtom(crap) i have had the new alpine unit.. but i will always come back to my c340 now the 550. Also what if some really new cool GPS comes out in a year.. i can just sell mine and go buy it always haveing the newest GPS on the block staying one step ahead. The garmin 550 has all the features you would need and it can go anywhere. did i mention it was idot proof!!

yes i had to sell my rsx for the truck

i never liked the look of attached units to dashboards of peoples cars. it looks so tacky and out of place IMO.

I like a clean meant to be there install, plus i need it to play dvd's for my son on long trips away.

the eclipse model im lookin at is the avn5500 i forgot the mention

Re: So Im about to pull the trigger on a aftermarket nav. Opinions welcome

I'm real happy with my Telenav in my phone.$10 month and if it's easy for me anyone can do it.The big plus I can use it in all my rigs, even my scooter.Nextel is my carrier.Just tell it where to go place it on the dash and it will show you next turn and tell you with plenty of time.If you drive past your turns it will re-route you.Cancel whenever and I do see Nav. systems falling in price, when one is low enough I might buy.But I did see a guy in a Ridge watching a movie on the dash at a stoplight it must have been a cheap movie because the actors had no clothes on.
