Re: USA Spec Ipod Adapter
Just recieved my "Updated Firmware" from Grom last night...it is a MICROCHIP! Do I look like someone who knows how to switch microchips??? I now need to pull the Grom Box from behind the radio and see if I have a future in building motherboards! I will let you know how the install goes on the second time around. I really hope this solves my issues!

Re: USA Spec Ipod Adapter
Now THAT'S funny.
Post a pic of what they sent you and maybe we can help. If it's in a DIP package, swapping it out is easy.

Re: USA Spec Ipod Adapter
Thanks Shovelhd. I will post them tonight when I get home! They included instructions (Which I will scan for everyone). The instructions also include a disclaimer that I am responsible if I break anything on the circut board while swapping the firmware. I am not too keen on that!

Re: USA Spec Ipod Adapter
Here are the instructions they included. All it is that they want me to swap is a microchip about a 1/2 inch long. Hope you can read the picture.

Re: USA Spec Ipod Adapter
Stupid question...doesn't this plug into the empty port on the back of the radio? When I do that it operates thru the xm/aux function of my radio. Everything I read about it says it operates on the CD selection! There was only one port on the back that I could fit the adapter into so I am confused!!
I have and RMA from Grom and Plan on ordering the USA SPec immediately, but I would like to know if I am somehow missing something here!

Re: USA Spec Ipod Adapter
Sorry I missed this. It seems like you've decided to send it back for a refund and buy the USA Spec. Swapping the DIP package is cake. The question is how well will this interface work. The USA Spec is a well-known quantity. Good luck which ever way you go.

Re: USA Spec Ipod Adapter
Did you read my latest question? I am installing correctly, aren't I? Does yours work thru the xm/aux button on your radio, or the CD button?

Re: USA Spec Ipod Adapter
I have no idea how this thing works. I don't own one, nor have I installed one.

Re: USA Spec Ipod Adapter
Just installed my USA spec into my 08 RTX. It went really well and was as easy as everyone here has said it would be.
I set the device to direct mode and it seemed to work great while parked in the firehouse where I did the install. Proud of myself, I got underway and was driving home with a subtle but noticeable high pitched squeal could be heard when I play my iPod classic throught the stereo while driving. Any ideas or experience with this phenomenon? I heard from the USA Spec tech guy just now on the phone and although I can barely understand him he gave me a couple of things to try which I'll attack tomorrow back down in the heated garage at the firehouse. Lovin' my new ridgeline! EPA |
