Play MP3's

Re: USA Spec Ipod Adapter

Boldenburg45, all,
I have attached a few pictures of my setup which leverages the ProClip system for mounting my Garmin 760 and iPod 60 Vid. I actually piggybacked the iPod and the Garmin on a vertical extender so they both can be at hand, yet out of the way of the HU controls. Please note that the shift stick just clears the mounting rig in all gears. Also, all cords can be hidden behind the mp3 compartment door when not in use. The only down side of this setup is the obvious advertisement that electronics may be onboard.

As ShovelHD states, I use Aux-in for Garmin mode which gives me voice turns, Bluetooth phone and audio books/mp3 over the HU. However, my primary mode is iPod in hybrid through the HU and Garmin through it's native speaker.

I choose based on the length of the trip and expectations of mobile calling.

Re: USA Spec Ipod Adapter

When you hook it up that way, though, it's all or nothing, isn't it? If you want to listen to the voice prompts/cellphone/mp3, you can't use any other HU inputs except AUX without switching back and forth.

If you have an mp3 playing on the Garmin, does it dip the volume if a Bluetooth cell call comes in, or the voice prompt announces? My Kenwood/Garmin does, but i don't know about the portables.

The portables pause the media on "voice directions" or phone calls.

Re: USA Spec Ipod Adapter

I just finished my install with an additional mod. I found an Aux input plug on Overtons Marine. $19 +shipping. FYI for any DYI'er, you need a 7/8 inch hole saw attachment for your drill. I didn't find that information anywhere on the packaging or online. Enjoy.

Re: USA Spec Ipod Adapter

Would it be possible to use one of the blank "squares" under the climate control knobs as a spot to run the aux port? Boldenburgs looks very clean where he has it, but that is a long distance to reach while driving. If I punched out one of those squares, I could continue to throw my iPod in the slot under the radio. Plus, when I wasn't using it I could throw the aux wire and iPod in there and keep it clean looking!

It appears to use the same 30-pin connector as iPods. Anybody have an experience using the iPhone in the RL?
did you ever get your iphone to work in the car? i also just got an iphone a few days ago and would love to be able to not have the cd's in the car.
