Re: Scangauge guys, step inside

Well... I did get it today. And its installed. Pretty much got a handle on about 99% of its capability. No XGauge function as of the latest version... for the RL. No fuel pressure... but apparently that is common.

I mounted it right on the back of the steering. I'm just tall enough (6ft1") such that I catch the full odometer right above and beyond the Scangauge... so its an ideal position.. blocks nothing.

Now to get the tank filled and do the initial calibiration. Everything else is set up. Oh, and check speed accuracy and adjust if necessary.

Pretty kewl.

That would be "vehicle specific gauges"... now available on only a few makes.... Ford etc.

Hopefully some of the codes, as you suggest, are common.. such as O2.

Think I'll get mine today if I believe my last input from USPS this morning.

More data Stephanie!
hmmmm... wonder if it would then make sense to wait a couple months for a "more complete" upgrade?

I suppose they'd let us know when it became available, though, so we could send it back in, to get the codes..
Or... perhaps the capability would already be in the updated software, so that all that would be necessary is a couple "tweaks" (with the updated codes) on our end?

Looking forward to any posts about the use of the new features... i.e. Horsepower, O2...
Is the "fuel cost display" not available on our truck, yet?

If you look at how XGauge features are invoked (on the website), the procedure involves entering codes. It may well be that new firmware is not necessary, just Scangauge figuring out what functions are available, and what codes to enter, and listing them for us. This would depend on just how good there firmware is... but clearly that is their intention.

In any event, an upgrade of firmware will be nothing, or cheap... if you look at how they handled previous upgrades.

Also, the way Scangauge phrased it... it could well be more than a few months.... at least that is the way I read it.

Given all that (which I knew before I ordered), I went ahead. Near as I can tell, its an excellent product and a good company.

I'll know more tomorrow when I do that first calibration fillup, and check speed accuracy... but so far... it looks great.

Also, I think its probably worth trying a few of the xgauges that seem to be general... like horsepower. It could be they work. Early, I had misunderstood a line... thinking that if no function came up under the 24 xgauge addresses, nothing was present. Wrong... one has to try entering the codes as if the function was present... and, if you entered the code correctly, and the function is present... it will then work.

Sometime tomorrow I'll be trying a few of the "ISO" general codes... to see if they work.

Not sure if any of the other modes besides "ISO" are worth trying. That mode is a default... and I don't know how intelligent the choice is. So that is another possibility. We'll see.

Re: Scangauge guys, step inside

I've had the update for a few weeks. I've added the HP function to the gauges. It's interesting to watch but I'm not sure how accurate it is, since I don't know how it's calculated. You can also add any of the trip computer readouts to the gauge panel so you can monitor other things besides fuel mileage. I haven't experimented any farther that that.

I told ScanGauge to clear the code and then told me no codes to report (or something like). We looked the P0000 up on the Internet for that vehicle and could not find it. The neighbor was going to call the service department and ask about it. That was last Sunday and I haven't talked to him since to find out what the dealer said.
Well it happened again. Tonight my neighbor called me with another check engine light on his Kia Sorento. I plugged the ScanGauge back in and got another P0000 code. I can't find what that code is and the Kia service department says that code doesn't exist. Like a bonehead, I went ahead and cleared the code. I should have left it there and had them take it to Kia for analysis. But NOOOOOOOO. Anyone got a clue????

Good advice arteegee, that's exactly what I'll do.

I did finally run across a site that said P0000 means, "No Diagnostic Trouble Codes Found". Gee - if nothing was found, why did it light up the check engine light. Honestly, I figured it was a gas cap issue, but P0457 would have indicated the gas cap (on the Kia anyway).

If your Scangauge had been attached at the time the light came on, it would have captured the code that triggered it, and saved it.

Some codes will clear if the condition was momentary. So the P0000 means the triggering condition is no longer present.

The above is an opinion... an educated guess.

Re: Scangauge guys, step inside

I got my SC for Christmas and installed shortly after that. I didn't like the way it looked on my dash sticking out further than my stereo the way I used to have it installed. Last week I was installing my sub/amp so I re-did everything while I had the dash apart. It involved using a storage pocket I had leftover from my Subaru Baja but it worked and fit almost perfectly. I have a switch installed next to the SG, but I don't like the way it looks too chunky. I'll be taking that out and installing a smaller round switch that I will eventually run to driving lights that I'll eventually purchase.

I see what you're saying - that makes sense. Thanks for the input.
