Scangauge guys, step inside

After pestering many members of this great forum, I finally installed my scangauge. Since I have an RTS, I was able to snake the cord through the dash and pop out the factory blank, installing the gauge with velcro. I like it. I read the manual and got a headache from such small print. I think I entered all the data needed but the gas mileage seems way off?

Any thoughts?

How can you expect mpg if you are traveling at 0mph?

Actually, the picture is just to illustrate my install.

If I am traveling on the highway at 60mph, mpg reads 36. It seems like I may have missed a step in the set up process.

Not impossible. You are getting at the moment mpg. Hit the accelerator and it should move down quit a bit. Bring it up to 70 and see how much it declines. Get off and on the highway a couple of times, and your "average" should equate to what you normally see. At highway speeds you are tapping into about 1/6 of the engines potential... It's not very thirsty.

First make sure you have the tank capacity input at 22 gal. Then reread the section on calibrating for mpg. It takes a tank or two of gas to get it right.

I'll retry entering the calibration data. Other than the MPG, the gauge seems to be well worth the money.

Re: Scangauge guys, step inside

As mentioned above, the MPG in that display is instantaneous. Floor the throttle and it will go down to single digits. Coast and you will get very high number. Stop and it goes to 0. You have to go to a different menu to see average MPG over time.

Now that I remember, you've just reinforced one of the reasons Honda gave for removing the trip computer from the Navi equipped Ridgelines. They claimed (incorrectly in my opinion) that consumers do not understand the data and that results in higher support costs and consumer complaints. Quote from Gary Flint:

Quote:
Some owners have expressed concern about fuel mileage and I’d like to address that here being that I have driven over 20,000 miles in a Ridgeline in real-world conditions. The Ridgeline has one of the lowest coefficients of drag compared to any of the current comparable truck competitors. If you confirm the actual real world fuel economy in a controlled situation with calibrated re-fueling techniques, you will find it is one of the most fuel efficient trucks in the segment (with equivalent towing specification – ie: V6 gasoline engine). I have personally achieved 22.6 mpg with my truck in real world driving at 70-75mph (with a tonneau cover which reduces drag slightly).
Based on previous market experience, displaying fuel economy information actually increases market complaints. Either from inaccuracies from re-fueling techniques (the system is typically more accurate at calculating fuel economy than the consumer), or displaying real-time information. The average consumer does not fully understand the engineering impact of weather affects, temperature (air density), or driving habits (speed/traffic).

Gotcha, It's kinda fun to be going down the highway and let off the gas going downhill and get 102 mpg

Have you looked at at the Trip function yet? That is where you get average mpg for Tank, Today, Current, and Previous Day. The instantaneous mpg gets old real quick.

Yep... what Web said.

Looks like a clean install... I like it.
Time will tell if it "gets in the way", or not.
Velcro makes it nice and portable/changeable.
