True not that bad but I was a Honda or Acura Salesman for 8 years. I got used to paying 8 bucks for the key and free cut and program. I could've gone to my old dealer and they would've taken care of me.

Re: 07 TL key fob conversion (Flip key)

The local dealer here last week or so quoted me about $105.00 for the key cutting and programming. I told him that I already had the key, and he then quoted me $51.00

The thing that gets me is that the keys suggested retail price is right around $38.00, so that means that they are jacking up the price if the key isn't purchased from them.

I.E. $38.00+$51.00 = 86.00 Not $105.00 Either they were jacking up the price of the key well beyond retail suggested by Honda, or he was pulling a number out of his hat. Anyway, I go into town on Tuesday so I'll have mine cut and programmed for free at that time at one of the dealers I visit every Tuesday.

I do remember it was 2 part unit and you had to have both together to work correctly, one was to accept the signal from the remote and one to bypass the immobilizer while you still are using the factory remote. I thought about using the trunk button to start my RL, that would be sweet.
Are you talking about this? I found it on the internet and I am wondering if the local DEI dealer can hook it up for my ridge.

This would be great in St. Louis too. It is already below freezing at night here. I sure would like a toasty car waiting for me in the driveway before I go to work.....plus, I am only 2.5 mile from the office, so the longer the truck warms up the better...short trips in cold weather is not a good thing.

Re: 07 TL key fob conversion (Flip key)

Got my key cut and programmed yesterday. The parts dept did the cutting with no charge (I fail to see how they justify $15-$20 to cut customers keys on these new machines where all they have to do is enter the keycode and let the machine do it, it really should be free for their customers as a perk of doing business with the dealer, anyway, they did it for free for me), and the tech that did the programming wasn't suprised at all since he's both a Honda and Acura owner.

The service advisor however told me that I would only be able to use the new Acura key fob and one of my existing Honda key fobs and that he's never been able to get 3 of them to work together. I did end up setting him straight however in letting him know that the programming of the door locks is not the same as programming the chip for the immobilizer and that there shouldn't be any problem having all three key fobs (1 acura, and 2 hondas) to work to unlock and lock the doors. Indeed it wasn't a problem and works fine, so now Im certain he'll be able to sell more keys to his customers now that he knows you can have more than 2 keyfobs to lock and unlock the doors on the truck.

The service director at the store however caught me before leaving to re-question me on how much the Acura Key fob is, and told me that he experiences the same thing that I do, with the size of the honda key and fob being rather large it's constantly poking him in the leg, and I wouldn't be suprised when I make my rounds again next week or so if he has one as well, since he also drives a nice Ridgeline (top of the line Im sure).

great hope you enjoy it like I do. Sad to see other Honda dearships being so closed minded about stuff and how they dont even want to listen to anybody outside the dealership. knowledge is power, and how I make my part dept money is by thinking outside of the box. But some places will never change. But im glad you got it to work. Cheers
