I only charge 30 for cutting the key here at my dealership so it shouldnt be that much.

I guess if you lived close to him, this would be a great business opportunity. Maybe we can make him a vendor? The more the merrier.

Re: 07 TL key fob conversion (Flip key)

This may be a silly question, but will the factory FOB's still function after programming? I am guessing the truck learns the code from the transmitter, which means the original FOB's would still function.

The OP has stated that you can only program up to 3 remotes per vehicle...at least that is what I read. So my guess is that as long as you are three or less remotes you should be good to go. I bought 2 extra blanks. One will be my everyday key and the other the spare. I'll have both programmed with the immobilizer. Since I know how to program the remotes (again information provided by the OP). I'll have one programmed and the other not. Are there instructions on how to "unprogram" or is it a "first in, first out" type of setup?

Sorry...what is the "RDX face plate"?! Is that the flip key "thingy"?
I still need to know if this works for a 2006 RTS?!
And what is this "immobilizer" that someone mentioned, please?

The RDX face plate will turn the TL key fob into a 2-button remote instead of the 3-button that is the TL fob. The third button, trunk release is not available on the RL. If you look at your RL there is a lock and unlock button.

Nope...it is just the face plate of the fob (that's why it is so cheap...it's just a piece of plastic, no guts inside).

Yup, works with all RLs that have the key remote

Okay...you really need to read your Owner's Manual. The immobilizer is a security feature that will only allow the RL to start if the correct key is programmed to the RL.

Here's Honda's explaination: "An Immobilizer Theft-Deterrent System is standard on the Ridgeline. The ignition key has a built-in transponder, which, when removed, immobilizes the engine fuel injection and ignition so the engine cannot be started. When the key is inserted, a radio signal from the ECU (Electronic Control Unit) is sent to the transponder. If the code in the key and the code in the ECU agree, then the ECU allows the engine to be started."

Hope this answers your questions.

Thanks bongus! Now I only have one more question, I thought this thread was about a way to get a flip key for the Ridgeline? I really must have missed something somewhere I just wanted to get a flip key if I could

If you don't want to read the prior posts, let me sum it up for you. Basically, the RL does NOT come with the switchblade key and key fob combo (please refer to the link provided by Mugen1 on how it works). Honda does provide this type of key fob combo on some if its vehicles as OEM accessories specifically the Acura TL and RDX. Each key fob remote has a specific RF id that can be detected by the vehicle. It so happens that the RF id of the TL is compatible with our RLs. So, the OP was nice enough to share his experiences on how he was able to make an Acura TL key fob control a Honda RL.

Are you with me so far? Let's proceed. The TL key has 3 buttons (technically it has 4 if you include the Panic button). Our RL has 2 buttons (again, technically it has 3 if you include the Panic button). The third button on the TL key is for the trunk release. Our RL does not have that feature thus, no third button. So if you don't want to be bothered by a third button, you will need to buy the RDX key fob cover/faceplate because that one only has 2 buttons (again, technically it has 3 buttons if you include the Panic button...are you noticing a pattern?). You can leave the TL as it is but again, the third (trunk release) DOES NOT WORK on the RL. So, replacing the TL cover with an RDX cover is purely a preference thing and has nothing to do with the success of this mod. I hope I've cleared the confusion. I do encourage you to read the posts because I may have left some important information out of this summary. Enjoy.

Bongus, I appreciate the help. Not sure I appreciate the sarcasim I read every single post on this thread before I asked one single question. I guess I got confused with all the different intials, RDX, TL, etc, and the 2 button key fob or three button etc. I realize that the Ridge only has 2 buttons, if you don't count the panic button, as you so wisely pointed out. I might not have figured that one out without your help because I have only been using that 2 button key fob for about 18 months and I am a little slow to catch on
