Re: 07 TL key fob conversion (Flip key)

No worries...I was not giving you a hard time. I could understand how all the initials can be confusing. I actually got some of my information from other forums (Element and Acura) that also were doing the same mod for their vehicles. Hopefully you've already purchased the necessary parts for this mod because Honda has quickly responded and upped their prices. The two dealerships listed on the prior posts already raised their prices. You might get lucky and find a dealer that has not made the price adjustment. Good luck.

Re: 07 TL key fob conversion (Flip key)

Okay have my parts.

Question, do I need to remove the 3rd button for the trunk from the key to have the 2 button cover fit on it? I'm guessing yes since the fit is not right with it sitting there.

If yes, how exactly?

Thank you.

Basically, the RL does NOT come with the switchblade key and key fob combo (please refer to the link provided by Mugen1 on how it works). Honda does provide this type of key fob combo on some if its vehicles as OEM accessories specifically the Acura TL and RDX. Each key fob remote has a specific RF id that can be detected by the vehicle. It so happens that the RF id of the TL is compatible with our RLs. So, the OP was nice enough to share his experiences on how he was able to make an Acura TL key fob control a Honda RL.

Are you with me so far? Let's proceed. The TL key has 3 buttons (technically it has 4 if you include the Panic button). Our RL has 2 buttons (again, technically it has 3 if you include the Panic button). The third button on the TL key is for the trunk release. Our RL does not have that feature thus, no third button. So if you don't want to be bothered by a third button, you will need to buy the RDX key fob cover/faceplate because that one only has 2 buttons (again, technically it has 3 buttons if you include the Panic button...are you noticing a pattern?). You can leave the TL as it is but again, the third (trunk release) DOES NOT WORK on the RL. So, replacing the TL cover with an RDX cover is purely a preference thing and has nothing to do with the success of this mod. I hope I've cleared the confusion. I do encourage you to read the posts because I may have left some important information out of this summary. Enjoy.
Dam couldnt say it better myself, Bongus you wanna come get a job? If so your hire.. LoL

Re: 07 TL key fob conversion (Flip key)

The flip key fob arrived today. I went with replacing the 3-button into a 2-button. It was a very easy conversion. I also took the time to program the key fob...no problems there either. Man, this is very cool mod. Thank, Houston for making me aware of this accessory. Now all I need to do is go to my local Honda dealer and have them cut and program the immobilizer.

I ordered the middle of last week and I got mine on Saturday. They were shipped USPS. I bought mine from a dealer in Florida and I live in California. So I my view that was very fast shipping. I too could not wait so I immediately converted the fobs into the two button faceplate and programmed the unlock and lock buttons. All of this was done in less than 15 minutes. I'm headed to my local Honda dealer for the cutting and immobilizer programming this weekend so, I still have to wait.
