Re: 07 TL key fob conversion (Flip key)

Got the key and faceplate today. Went to my dealer and they cut it & programmed it for free. The tech didn't think it would work. Everything works fine.......Many thanks to the original poster.....

Re: 07 TL key fob conversion (Flip key)

Glad it worked for you guys...too bad for me, I still have to wait a few days. Did you guys have to bring all the keys in for reprogramming? The dealer I'm working with told me that the immobilizer needs to be reset so the keys that work now will not work after programming the new key. I bought two key blanks so I'll do everything once.

Thanks for the info. I'll post my experience after I get the keys cut and programmed.

Re: 07 TL key fob conversion (Flip key)

ok....now I am a little confused....the steps that Houston hb posted.....are those just for the keyless entry, or is that how the immobilizer is programmed as well? Is there another piece of equipment that only a dealer has that is used to program the immobilizer?

The directions posted by the OP relate to programming the UNLOCK, LOCK and PANIC buttons of the remote. It has nothing to do with the immobilizer. From what I understand, you need to connect a device to the ODB port of the vehicle and then immobilizer codes are reset, that means your keys that work now will no longer work. The tech will then program the immobilzer with the new set of keys as well as the old set. This immobilizer cannot be done by just turning the ignition on and off a few times like the remote buttons. Hope this clears things up.

Re: 07 TL key fob conversion (Flip key)

Thanks bongus......guess I will have to visit a dealer early next week once my new key is here. Anyone know any dealers in St. Louis who are willing to do this for cheep if not free?

The immobilizer programming seems to be where the dealers are making their money. I called one local dealer today and they were going to cut the key for free but charge me $75 to program the immobilizer and another $25 to program the remote buttons. I'm not sure what is the justification for the charge since there are dealers that will do it for free...go figure. Some say that the dealerships make their money from the Service department; I guess this makes sense.

$45 for the key, $8 for the cover, $75 for immobilizer and $25 to cut the key. Total of $153 for a switch blade key? Not sure I can justify that considering I could get an air deflector from HANDA for $50 less. I had a switchblade key on my ML320. It was nice to have but it wasn't $153 worth of convenience.
