Radio Security Code

Did you know the 5 digit number on the left interior side of the glove box is your radio security number.

Re: Radio Security Code

Did you also know that if you hold down the 1 and 6 Preset keys that it will show you the serial number.

Thats great if the dealer didnt install your sticker.

That number is also what Honda uses to determine your unlock code.

Is this on the side of the glovebox (outside) or supposed to be on the inside (side) of the glovebox? I looked in my glovebox but there is no stickers in there. i do of course have the radio card that comes in the new owners package as well as the codes in an assortment of text files on my computer in case I lose the original card.

The real question for me to ask is, "How many of you have left your radio code card sitting in the new owners package in your glovebox?"

I've seen many many people come into the dealership with the card sitting in the glovebox package and not even think that if someone steals their radio they will likely get the code as well since they don't usually lock their glove box. I know I don't lock mine as theres usually nothing in there of any value.

1 and 6 huh? Im going to have to go try that. Thanks, if that works on my radio too it makes it real easy to record the serial number without having to remove the radio.

My sticker is on the left exterior side of the glove box (visible from the driver's seat with the glove box open). But it only has the radio serial number, not the security code on it (which is a good thing).

Re: Radio Security Code

Placing the code stickers somewhere in the glove box seems to purely be an individual dealer thing. No stickers anywhere on mine. I have had two times earlier on in ownership where I needed to re-input one or the other of the codes. Just went out to leave for work in the morning and the radio or the nav wanted to be reset. Thankfully i have a short drive or I would have been more disapointed. Would have been really bummed had it happened while out of town. Now I keep the codes in my wallet on the back of a business card and blackberry. Hasnt happened for a year though, so makes me wonder why it did two times earlier on. Oh well, atleast I'm prepared should it happen again.

If someone is going to be so nice as to steal my stock stereo the least I can do for them is stick the sticker where they can find it.

I'm no fan of the stock head unit. It ain't nothin' special. I don't think that anyone would bother stealing it. It's super underwhelming.

Re: Radio Security Code

Yeah but it can make some money on eBay. Personally while I do find the stock HU a bit lackluster, I do like the way that it looks in the truck. I spent a couple hours at the couple local stereo shops that we have around here looking for an aftermarket HU that I could put in place of the stock unit, but everything that was offered was either too flashy or priced at double the price that walmart prices the stereo at.

Yes we have some pretty bad stereo shops around here, both of which carry the same pioneer and dual brands that walmart carries as well as some flashy alpine units (at the stereo shop) which were too flashy and colorful and would look out of place in the truck.

Until I can find an aftermarket HU that doesn't look out of place in the dash, I'll stick with the OEM unit and hope that I can find the 6 CD changer model on eBay at an affordable price.

I was bidding on one and I put in a bid of $85.00 and then got called away from the computer for 7 or 8 hours and when I returned home, it turned out that the oem 6 cd changer HU sold for $90.00 I was extremely bummed so my search continues to either get a great price on the oem 6CD unit or an aftermarket unit that doesn't look out of place (IMO).

Smile Re: Radio Security Code

Looking at the radio security code card in my owners manual material, I found the original code. Then I registered on the American Honda Owner Link and found the radio has two codes listed -- the original code and another code that must have been added later.

The Honda site said something about my unit having two codes and that I neded to determine which code was correct.

Do you know how I can determine which code is correct and how I could have two codes listed with Honda?

Thank you,
OCS

Punch them both in. You'll know when one works. You get 3 tries to get the code right IIRC.
