2008 Garmin Map Software Available
This morning I received an email from Garmin stating that the new 2008 City Navigator North America NT map software DVD is now available. Details can be found on the Garmin website.
Thought all you Garmin owners would like to know.

It's interesting to me that you received the e-mail this morning. I purchased my Garmin back in July with the 2008 City Navigator North America NT installed. I wonder why it wasn't released to previous owners at the same time?

Garmin changed the naming convention to match Europe, but it's confusing.
Up until this release, the latest NA map release was called: City Navigator North America NT v8 otherwise known as v8. The newest release appears to be called: City Navigator North America 2008 It doesn't look like it's available yet for the Kenwoods. Once it is, and it's in disti, I will be purchasing it. I want to stay no more than one release behind.

Pizza Man, I just got off the phone with Garmin and was informed that the 2008 City Navigator North America NT map DVD is the update to City Navigator North America NT v8; and beginning in June, the 2008 maps were installed on all new Garmin units. The 2008 maps update DVD was not released until around August. The customer service rep had no explanation why I was just now receiving an email about the updated maps, but added that map updates are always installed on new units before they are released to existing owners.
I hope that I have clearly summarized what the rep explained to me.

Yeah, I would have figured you would have been notified around the same time as they started installing in the new units. August at the latest. Either way Nole, the reminder that the new version is available for those who may have missed it is appreciated.
Back in July when I purchased, I was concerned I wouldn't receive the latest mapping software. I called Garmin and was told that because they were shipping units with the new version they would give me a free upgrade if I received a new unit with the old version. Luckily, I received the latest map version.

With Tucson's growth, I upgrade every year...
BUT I'm in sore need of a working copy of the full version of City Navigator v6 or v7 as I NEED it to install the update. I have all of my OWN codes, I just need the media so I can get my maps installed. I can't afford, right now, to go out and BUY another GPS system, plus my Garmin StreetPilot 2610 does all I need it to do except pronounce street names.

Garmin has announced a late April '08 map update for their unlocked units. Check back with them often!
