Powerful FM Transmitter for the IPOD

I just purchased a "Whole House Transmitter" to replace my weak Moster FM Transmitter. It does a much better job, and I don't have to turn the volume all the way up. It retailed for $89.99 and can be used in the house too. The draw backs are the extra wires (included) you have to have and it doesn't charge the IPOD. I find these things not to be a real big problem. It does reach out and work as advertized. It is a fine addition to the truck. I checked out the modulators that plug into the back of the stereo unit, but they incapacitate the CD player if installed. This seems to be a good work-a-round until Honda figures out they need to upgrade the sound system in the truck.

Re: Powerful FM Transmitter for the IPOD

You should have a look at the USA Spec aux input adapters - they allow your audio to play through your system flawlessly and don't alter the operation of your radio/cd player at all...

Re: Powerful FM Transmitter for the IPOD

When I checked it out on-line it said that the CD Changer must be disconnected. I still want to use it. Pasted from the ad:

• 2 Auxiliary inputs for DVD audio, MP3, IPOD audio or any standard portable device with stereo audio output.
• All plug and play harnesses for easy installation, no wires to cut or splice.
• Dual ( 2 ) separate AUX inputs for multiple audio sources.
• True high level input for true digital quality sound.
• Not FM modulated! Direct connection to your factory radio.
• Self powered.
• Connects through your factory radio’s CD Changer Port.
• High quality metal finish and case.
• Includes all cables and connectors required for installation.
• If vehicle has existing CD changer, it must be disconnected.

He's referring to the ipod interface with aux input. For the RL, CD Changer functionality is retained!

Re: Powerful FM Transmitter for the IPOD

So it looks like I'm out of luck with the RTS Model? I doubt I will trade to just have this one feature. I love my truck and will likely keep it for quite a while. Sometimes I want to use the CD Changer like on trips to work, etc. I'm not ready to sacrifice this at this time. Thanks you guys for the input on this subject. It is just too bad Honda didn't use more fore-thought on this. Even cheap after market stereos have this option.

Re: Powerful FM Transmitter for the IPOD

For me, I've used multiple FM transmitters and they were all a royal PITA. The SPEC on the other hand is awesome.

If your RTS has the 6 disc head unit, then the USA SPEC should work. For my RTL without Navi, I simply plugged the SPEC into the aux. jack in the back of the headunit which was intended for acessories such as an EXTERNAL CD changer.

Based on your description, sounds as though you may be misinterpreting the claim of CD non-functionality as referring to your headunit CD when it may be referring to an external CD player...I think your headunit CD player would work with the USA SPEC, but you sound pleased with your purchase, which is what really matters.

Re: Powerful FM Transmitter for the IPOD

I'll check it out. Sometimes the transmitter sounds crappy but most of the time it's just OK.

Thanks!

Congrats on the 300th post. The only FM transmitter I ever owned that really worked was the one that came with my original XM SkiFi radio. The only thing about it is that you have to put the radio in the cradle that it came with to make it turn on. I still haven't figured a way to turn it on without the radio unit. If I did, I would use it in my truck.

The FCC made XM suspend shipments of these units because they allegedly had some sort of "emissions" problem. That problem was that they worked too well. The transmitter was too strong.

BTW - The only way I have ever had any luck in making a regluar ole' FM transmitter work properly in a car is to unplug the antenna so the outside signals don't overrun the FM transmitter. If you don't listen to FM like I don't, it's no big loss.

Good point ...I never thought to do this...
