Ipod "line-out" volume problem?

I seem to have a problem with my 2nd Gen Nano's "line-out" volume. But I am just not sure where the problem lies.
I have purchased 3 different FM transmitters to use in my RTL, and with each one, the volume is so low that it is almost unuseable (not to mention poor signal, etc.). So, I bought the GromAudio Car-Ipod interface so that I can connect the Ipod directly to the Head Unit (through a little device). Still, the volume is just way too low, even at max volume of the stereo.

Any ideas? Is it my Ipod?

Re: Ipod "line-out" volume problem?

Test your iPod with your headphones and with some external speakers to see if the problem replicates. Also, verify there are no additional volume output controls on your FM transmitter.

You can also restore your iPod to factory defaults and update the software (if needed) - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983 - then move your music back on and try it again.

If after that it still is giving problems, take a trip to your nearest Apple store.

Re: Ipod "line-out" volume problem?

I have the same problem with my Belkin and griffin fm transmitter. My Ipod works fine on my Ihome device- kinda like a clock radio docking station.

the sound is fine quality and volume level.

does anyone have any other ideas- could it be itunes related?

I'll check the itunes/ipod blog sites.

Re: Ipod "line-out" volume problem?

almost all FM have limited volume by design - get a USA SPEC snd hon2 hybrid ipod adapter - the volume is 10X better - my 8 volume is louder that any FM was at 40 setting.

It costs about 2X what a good FM adapter costs but well worth it

Installation took 10 minutes - 5 of which was deciding where to put it.

I chose to tie it to the metal support between the radio and the glove box with vynal tie wraps and put the ipod cable in the space to the right of the flasher button. The Ipod stays hidden and the cd controls change the song if I want to hear something else.

Your only other option is to get use a headphone amp to interface your iPod with the input of your auxiliary device. My cellphone also has low output from the headphone jack so I use a portable DIY CMoy amp to crank it up a bit.

I shoulda done it right in the first place! My wife always tells me, buy the most expensive one now, you know you're going to do it eventually anyway!
Sent my other junk back and bought the USA-Spec. Installing tonight; fingers crossed.
