Sturdier double-din mount

Anyone found a sturdier double-din mount than either the Metra or Scosche products? My AVIC-D3 just about tore itself out of the dash when I was in Moab, and now it's even less stable than it was before.

Those cheap plastic side brackets just aren't enough to hold a double-din radio securely IMHO. Even the Honda stock radio had metal mounting tabs. I'm thinking about trying to fashion my own metal brackets to replace those crummy plastic ones.

But before I do this, I just wondered if there were any companies making a decent mounting kit made from metal before I proceed.

Thanks!

I use American International, I have yet to see any sign of stress on it.

Same here. I also have a 1/4" wide tye-wrap around the whole thing which keeps my HD Radio tuner attached, and solidifies the whole thing. No issues.

Thanks! I'll see if I can find them online and see if their kit looks significantly different than the Metra kit.

Re: Sturdier double-din mount

I once bought an American International kit at Tweeter. If you have a Tweeter in your area, it might be worth checking.

I too have the AI kit for over a year now. It proven to handle quite despite the tiny gap on the bottom.
