Any RL - Owning Hams doing HF or VHF/UHF from their RL?
Being Personality Deficient (and Old), I still pursue Amateur Radio vigorously. Climbing and crawling into and out of Ridgelines and spotting places thereupon on where I might mount a dazzling array of really ugly antennas, I wonder if there are any other Hams who have gone Mobile with their RL's.
Antenna and transceiver mounting, power conditioning and noise suppression techniques would seem to be the most pressing issues. Also, anyone who has done a dual-battery mod is encourages to add his/her experiences. I can hardly wait to apply my Motorola-isssue NMO hole saw to the (temporarily designated, soon-to-arrrive) Vermillion Battle Jitney. I'd especially like to see photos of a "screwdriver"-style antenna install (HS, Tarheel, etc). Magnetic mounts? Get a life. Trunk lip mounts? Oh, puleeeeze! Through-glass antennas? Just pass a glass (or a longneck) through the window while I pull the headliner down, the carpet up and try to feed #8 TW through a stray firewall grommet... DE W7LV |

Re: Any RL - Owning Hams doing HF or VHF/UHF from their RL?
If you have a Retrax cover there is just enough space to mount antennas on the leading lip of the canister cover. It is easy to remove to work on. It does require grinding some ridges off of the underside. I used a dremmel tool and it was easy to do. I drilled a 3/8" hole in the bed wall to get the wire into the space between the fender and the bed. Remove the top plastic bed rail and you can see into the cavernous space through some existing slots in the top of the bed wall. It is not too hard to fish the wire to the rear door sill. From there it is easy to fish it under the carpet to just about anywhere. The antenna that I installed is for is for the Uniden BCT-8 scanner. With the addition on a splitter/tuner I was able to install an old CB set that is all self contained in the handset. I rarely use it but if the weather is bad or I see a motor home or truck that seems to be broken down or lost it is nice to have. A black antenna on a black truck mounted behind the sail panel is not very noticeable. Prior to mounting it on the Retrax I was going to mount it on the right front fender but decided to go the other route.

Yes, Ham radio is still going strong. Any other amateur operators/Ridgeline owners?

D) All of the above It is supposed to be a code, isn't it? The original one was just accidentally encrypted. I added some extra spaces for clarity.
