Radio Data display for FM

Anyone happen to know if the tuner display has the capability of showing the RDS (Radio Data Signal) info that some of the FM Radio stations braodcast? I have the RTL w/ MR & Navi headunit. On our Chevy Suburban's radio, that unit has the capability to show this info, but I haven't been able to find any details as to whether the RL's radio can show the RDS info for FM.

Re: Radio Data display for FM

Haven't noticed yet since we listen mostly to XM/CD/iPod but I'll have to check this out later.
In the meantime here's a website http://www.rdslist.com/update.php that lists the stations that broadcast RDS info. Maybe someone can check a station in their area and reply.

My 2001 Sunfire had it....it kicked in automatically when a radio station in my area started that info.
I haven't seen it on the Ridgeline for the station.

This has been my only disappointment with the RL. How can Honda be this far behind on this?

How bout that it also doesnt display CD-TEXT info from CD's? or, that the CD player doesn't play MP3s....

I just dont get Honda in this respect. They are so behind the times in this area. Dont get me wrong, I love this truck, I just dont understand their lacking in this area.

All Audio components are Pioneer branded.......

Maybe it has something to do with that?

Re: Radio Data display for FM

If I may add my 2 cents worth of observations (at least in the RTL):
  • radio comes with free XM 3 month teaser subscription
  • XM displays ALL info including station, song, artist
  • There is a FM antenna is mediocre at best (and that's being polite)
  • FM text display (RDS) is disabled
  • First year XM discount program

Honda isn't dumb, and certaintly IS aware that RDS exists, and IS aware that it's customers would appreciate a service that is provided by the FM industry at no charge.

To me it would seem to indicate that Honda and the XM industry may have made a $$$deal$$$, to make FM less attractive and reduce the initial hurddles associated with getting into XM. I may be wrong, but I can't think of a logical reason to omit this feature, or at the very least, give us the option to pay for as on option. No, it doesn't seem to fit, for a company that took the time that Honda did in planning and design before launching this truck.

These of course are my conclusions, your mileage may vary...

Re: Radio Data display for FM

I guess you haven't heard HD Radio. The sound quality blows satellite away.
