I just got finished with my speaker upgrades. This is a must for anyone who wants the best sounding clear system available. I bought MB quart pce 216 speakers for both front and rear. You can find them on ebay new for 210.00. Now realize these speakers normally cost 550.00 a set. So nows the time to buy. These speakers no doubt are the best speaker ever made. Ask any high end dealer and he will agree. I bought a avg amp to upgrade the power to them. They installed perfectly, all 6.5 inches. I placed the tweeter above the door one that little triangle space on the top. It looks custom. I also added an Infinity Bass link T for a sub. Crutchfield lists this for 500 new. You can find it on ebay now for 240.00. A steal! It fits perfectly under the seats. Even a little room for an umbrella. Once this was all done, I cannot turn my volume past 20. I left the stock head unit in. All together i spent 700 for speakers and around 250 for installation. This system rocks! I cannot believe the difference from the factory crap they put in. Trust me when you remove the factory speakers and see the quality, your better off without a radio. The factory speakers weigh about a .5 pound a piece. Which translates to junk. There is a switchover that you can add if you want to change the head unit so you can keep the factory sub and control swtiches on the steering wheel. Im waiting till next year for that.

Re: Speaker upgrades
I did mine as well. Only replaced the Head unit with the JVC AVC1 that plays DVDs.
Running CDT separates in the doors with tweets mounted in same location. So far it is greatly improved, but still some work to do. Building my own sub box (sealed), and now waiting for the 2 Kicker 8" L5 subs to arrive. Have an Alpine V12 2 channel powering the CDTs and a HiFonics BX1600 for the subs that should arrive later this week. (A little too much amp, but I am not a loud type of person, just need clean sound), and if still not what I am looking for, may run another pair of 8s since anything bigger will not easily fit. May or may not like the L5s, we will see. Afterall, I was prevously running a single 12 (Soundsplinter) that was incredible. MW |
