Turning off the Navigation Display

Is there a way to turn off the navigation display without turning off the vehicle? Often I will use the navigation system to find a gas station but then I would like to turn it off. I can't find anything in the manual.

Re: Turning off the Navigation Display

you could push the audio button, which would then display your radio/cd/aux setting instead of the nav. Other than that, off of the top of my head, I don't think there is a way to turn the display off.

Re: Turning off the Navigation Display

Seems crazy that there is no off switch. My Infinity QX4 has an off button. Anybody else got a clue how to turn it off?
Thanks

Re: Turning off the Navigation Display

If you don't hit the 'OK" button on the navi screen, when you first start your vehicle, it will just turn itself off after about a minute.

Re: Turning off the Navigation Display

The simple way to do this is to press the Voice Command button on the steering wheel and say "Display Off" in a clear voice. The display will turn off.

Those of you who plan to own this truck for many years and have the Nav should take precaution with the NAV unit. That screen won't last forever (slowly deteriorates over time). Turn it off when you aren't using it and it will last much longer.

True LCDs won't last forever but I've been using the same Apple LCD display for 8 hours/day for the last 5 years and it's still just as bright as day one. Perhaps they are not built to the same quality but none the less I keep my Ridge display cranked at full brightness and on all the time. I intend to enjoy the darn thing The NAV replacement is $968 to replace so conservation might be a consideration for others though.

mtrotman & whitelightning -- That is good to know, I have been wondering how to do this also, just found it in the Navi manual.

I suppose you can turn the display back on again with the voice command. Going to have to try that.
Thanks for the great tip.

On a recent long trip north on I5 in Calif I really did not need the Navi display on all the time because it is such a long straight stretch of highway.

Hopefully with the display off the voice guidance will continue to work and you could turn the display back on when you hear a voice guidance change although the Navi manual says the route guidance stops when the display is off.

Not sure if that means only visual guidance is off or all guidance is stopped.

Something else to experiment with and try.
