Re: Anyone install a car PC?

I've been prowling around mp3car.com a lot recently and they certainly have some cool stuff out there. I downloaded a demo of streetdeck and it does look pretty good... choices, choices..

Re: Anyone install a car PC?

I saw the samsung q1 on sale at best buy for 899, also saw it at compusa, for around the same price. I was thinking of going this way, but hate spending money when I really don't need to.

Re: Anyone install a car PC?

Prices will come down and I would rather have the asus with the built in GPS...

Here is the GPS in action... http://media.libsyn.com/media/gottab...sR2H_final.wmv

Re: Anyone install a car PC?

A laptop seems to be the easiest way to start a car pc install. I'm waiting to get some time (and play money) to grab a solution from someone like http://www.xenarcdirect.com/home.php?cat=256. Couple one of these with a 7" lcd, bluetooth GPS and cell phone data service and you're good to go (I think). Don't get Streets and Trips to use with a GPS if you actually want to route directions. I'm pretty sure it only shows you where you are ... not where you want to go with map and voice directions on how to get there.

Re: Anyone install a car PC?

i'm going with an mp3car setup myself, thinking of a lilliput 10" touch screen, but as i don't have the ridge yet.. i don't know if a 10" will fit so i'll start w/ a 7" in my blazer

then it's their opus (i think) box w/ a intel duo core processor, as much ram as will fit, 7.1 audio, automated startup/ shutdown controller and street deck software

plus the rearview camera, sirius satellite radio, ipod hookup, gps, bluetooth, and fm tuner

that should about cover it i think

Re: Anyone install a car PC?

keep in mind the lilliput monitors suck in sunlight. Very hard to see. I have the touchscreen version with a Windows XP embedded wyse winterm in my Crown Victoria. Very hard to see sometimes.

Re: Anyone install a car PC?

I have MS Streets and Trips on my laptop in my RL and it's awesome!!!! It works superb. It DOES have route directions as well as voice driving instructions (from a female voice). I have audio cacle running into my USA Spec iPod adapter when I want to hear voice instructions. It's only about $100 for software and USB GPS receiver and it's very accurate.

Re: Anyone install a car PC?

OK, my bad! I was commenting from memory and I forgot that I was using MS Streets and Trips software for my Treo. This is the config that I was referring to. Again, it's been awhile, so I may still be wrong.
