Re: Day Time Running Lights - self-install summary

I am picking up a US 2007 RTL-Nav-SR next weekend and bringing it back to Canada. I plan on installing the Hamsar 45040 (park and low beams on full). This is the only module that I can find locally. Since ALL Canadian vehicles come with DRL, they don't sell many after market DRL kits. The install is a little different then for the other Hamsar modules and I could use some advice for a few of the connections.

DRL wires -> Honda wires
Black - ground to fender wall
Red - battery + (comes with inline fuse)
White - low beam red/yellow
Orange - high beam white/yellow
Yellow - parking light + ? not sure the color or location of this
Green - wrap around outside of spark plug wire or hard wire to 12V source with engine ON

Parking Lights + wire, any suggestions there?

I would like to hard wire the Green engine on sense wire, does anyone know of a source for a 12V line that goes on with engine on? The directions suggest "vehicles oil pressure switch", know where that is?

I guess that I could just not connect the low or high beam wires and only use the Parking Lights for DRL, if I don't like the low beams on all the time. I also plan on getting the GE headlights, so I don't really want to burn them out all the time.

Thanks

Re: Day Time Running Lights - self-install summary

I am also picking up a 2006 Ridgeline on the weekend. I want to install the DRL myself. I talked to a Honda dealer and they said that they use a relay under the dash to do the DRL. No wiring under the hood.

Is there someplace online I can download the wiring diagram to figure this out? Has someone done it this way?

Thanks!

Re: Day Time Running Lights - self-install summary

Getting to the Heated Seat Relay is pretty easy in the engine passenger fusebox compartment.

Also, it's easier to use your FOGS as DRLs. Look at my earlier thread if you want to use fogs as DRL.

Re: Day Time Running Lights - self-install summary

My unit does not have fogs. I have never seen under the hood, so I guess I will find the easiest location to tap into a wire when I get it.

Thanks

Re: Day Time Running Lights - self-install summary

MikeT I thought I saw a previous post of yours that said that if you leave your lights on they will go out after 30 sec. ? Actually I responded to that. Why would someone need daytime driving light wiring if you just left them on, did I miss something.

Thanks Kevin

Re: Day Time Running Lights - self-install summary

Hi, Thank you for your support on the daytime running lights. I recently purchased an '06 Ridgeline which i need to get DRLs installed for licensing. Since you have used two different kit models, is there one version you prefer over the other? I have the RTS model with no fog lights. I might just install my own set of fog lamps but that will be wired in via an external circuit without tapping into the electrical system. Do you have any other suggestions for a new Ridgeline owner regarding modifcations or maintenance.
Thanks in advance. I look forward to hearing from you.
H.

(PS. I recently learned the 45035 kit will also work, the difference is the 45035 runs the hi-beams at 60% reduction while the 45030 runs the low-beams at 24% reduction. PSS. I swapped out my old module with the hi-beam 45035 one. I simply just plugged in the new module and only had to switch/reverse the hi/low beam wire connections, everthing else was left as before.)

Below I'll detail for the 45030 kit where each wire hooks up and also 6 pics (for the 45035 just reverse the low/hi beam connections). They work as advertised but note if you have fog lights they will also power up that circuit so you'll have to turn off the foglights during the day if you don't want them on. Apparently the foglights tap into the power from the low-beam headlight circuit so there's no easy way to get around this. Of course if you use the 45035 kit this is not an issue since the fogs lights are automatically turned off by having the hi-beams on.

DRL wires -> Honda wires
Black - ground to fender wall
Red - driver side fuse box power, white/bolt
White - low beam red/yellow
Orange - high beam white/yellow
Green - yellow in under dash driver side fuse/relay box
Blue - black/white in under dash driver side fuse/relay box
Yellow - green/orange parking brake wire

I used the included tap splices for all except the two under the dash wires, Green & Blue as the honda wires were too thick. I cut away the insulation on them and hard wired them in with solder.

The ground was a short wire and I found a close by hole in the fender wall, I used a dremel to grind off the paint and attached with a nut/bolt and then repainted any bare metal surface still showing.

You can try tapping into the amber parking lights.
