How do I make my Ridge more dangerous...

dangerous to other cars that is.

I'm so tired of the tiny parking spaces here in NH. I've already had a hit and run in a parking lot that cost me $1600 and I want to protect my car so other cars are scared of it. I remember some crazy guy in NYC who welded a metal frame around his car.

I don't want to go that far, but am open to suggestions. Would one of those brush/bull bars up front provide protection from people parallel parking in front of me and hitting me? Would a trailer hitch with a nice fat ball sticking out the rear make it more intimidating to those who are trying to pull up close behind me?

Ideas are welcomed. Thanks.

Here's some ideas:

Put an orange traffic cone in front and behind your Ridgeline when parking on the street where others will be parking in front of and behind you. Wh pulling into a smaller spot where there is parking on either side (I try to avoid this one), put three cones out; one on each corner of the truck that faces out of the parking spot (This will cause the other driver to be more centered in their parking spot), and a cone next to your front door on the side another car will be parking on.

Now for real, a hitch will cause someone to rethink parking up against your rear bumper. A push bar on the front will do the same. If you do put cone out, just put them on the inside corner of each lane marker. As stated this will cause the other driver to be more concious of how they pull in.

Last suggestion, drive the wife's car when in doubt or you know the parking is tight.

Re: How do I make my Ridge more dangerous...

could start with the side moldings and fender flares on the body

then a bull bar in front and trailer hitch in back like you said-with the receiver that looks like a little bull bar

or you could just leave it hella dirty to keep people away(like me)

Re: How do I make my Ridge more dangerous...

I have no suggestions, but I understand. I sometimes travel into Philly and need to parallel park. I was returning to my car and watched the guy parked behind me nip the corner of my car while he was pulling out. This is a very common occurance and it's done intentionally. Why? Because it saves the fool an extra back-up. I had to stand in front of the guy's car so he wouldn't leave until I checked for damage. It's not like newer vehicles have bumpers anymore, like the RL there are bumper covers on almost every car out there. One little tap and your marred for life.

I tell my daughter, who seems to be a magnet for parking lot damage, it's your responsibilty to protect your car. No one cares if your car is new, it's not theirs. Short of posting an armed guard, I have no idea how to solve the problem.

Thanks deepdrop, for the opportunity to do a little rant.

Re: How do I make my Ridge more dangerous...

The cones are an interesting idea. I worry that the cops here would give me a ticket. This is a small college town and they don't have a lot of crime to fight. It might be illegal to put up ones own cones, but I'll check.

XRX, what do you mean by a "real" bumper guard? Do you have a pic? Sounds like I need one.

I have the side guards but I think I'll add the hitch without a ball so that it has more sharp edges. Plus, I'm hoping to get a boat again in the next year or two, so it may actually get used.

The bull bar in front is the one thing I'm iffy about. It's pretty expensive and the coverage is limited. I guess they're cheaper than a new front bumper, but they don't look like they protect the front corners (where I got smashed in KMart).
