Trunk Cooler Question

Spun - I prefer to stay away from that word. I just thought it would be nice to have increased cooler capacity for special occasions like sporting events, jimmy buffet concerts, baptisms, wednesdays etc.

Having just used some of the stuff... and thinking aloud...

Try to follow me here...

1. Empty the trunk (leave the spare and anything else that you wouldn't normally need access to while your trunk is full of ice)

2. Line the trunk with a large plastic garbage bag, supporting it (under the bag) with something to raise it to the desired height in those areas temporarily.

3. *** This step is purely a "thought". Don't know how messy it could get!
Using "Great Stuff", or similar aerosol polyurethane expanding/insulating foam sealant, coat the entire "garbage bag lining" with the stuff 'til it's as thick as you'd like.

4. Before the stuff cures completely, apply a second garbage bag to cover the foaming mess.


Voila! An instant insulated lightweight liner - custom-fitted to your individual trunk!

(Orrrrr... a nasty sticky mess that is virtually impossible to remove! )


If anyone decides to try this, keep in mind that I was awake all day yesterday, worked the graveyard shift last night, and my eyes are beginning to droop as I'm typing this...

At lunch, I was looking at the area in question inside my trunk. It appears that Honda has already considered this as there appears to be a "slot" / "groove" already molded around the opening into the spare tire area.

The best solution is to put a real cooler in there. I tried to use it as a cooler once and the ice totally melted in about 4 hours. It makes a lousy cooler, but a good size real cooler should fit in there just fine.

Piece of 1x2
Some rubber stuff
2 eye hooks
Couple of bungee cords

Use you imagination and you have a temporary tire cubby cover and more cooler depth.

I mentioned this a long time ago in a thread far far away (http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/forums/exterior/6722-trunk-cooler-not-too-good.html)...

If want to turn the trunk into an insulated cooler you only need to use a thermal emergency blanket.... I transport 100's of pounds of frozen beef each year with this simple $10 item.
