Re: Added some door sill decoration.

Good morning BIGBLOCKDODGE,

Thanks for the kudos’. My son is almost as busy as I am with his college classes and day job but he insists the site is just around the corner. These units were done Saturday along with a few others. We've just been swamped with last minute requests for goodies for the SEMA show in Vegas so please bear with us as we are working our collective brains out trying to accommodate everyone. I hope you don’t mind us posting photos of your sill plates Ridgeln!
Thanks again,
Ron

D'Oh! MIND? HECK NO!!!!!

5S Dude beat me to the posting of MY NEW SILL PLATES!!! I decided to customize the truck as to who sits where (with two boys, 5 & 7, it is often an issue - I hope that this helps with where they are). Now all I have to do is make sure that I put the sill plates on securely so that my wife (CR3ATIV) doesn't put HERS on the drivers side! (I do let her drive it on occasion, but she really does prefer her Subaru and Miata to my Ridge - go figure!)

5S Dude is awesome. So easy to work with - AND, he suggested the customizing of my wife's side sill (I was a rockhead and wanted RIDGELN on both sides - probably NOT a good idea - he suggested the name change on wife's side).

Nice work 5S Dude!! I'm really...really...REALLY thinking about putting some funds aside for a set of those!!! I guess I should start thinking about what I'd want on them...RIDGELINE...SIXOPRIDGE...RUFFONE...so many choices

BTW...how many manhours does it take to produce a set?

Hey SixOPRidge, I was gonna work on the sub-plate fixture to machine four complete sets of sill plates at a time. But I have not had any time to mess with it as I have a bunch of other guys putting the screws to me to get their stuff to them before the SEMA show. (Audi, Subaru, Titan & Toyota gurus) It gets like this every year right before the show (Last Minute Jobs), but it’s what I love to do so I can’t complain. To make a long story longer, Currently, it takes 5 to 6 minutes to cut the bar stock for four sets on an iron worker and 2hr 17 minutes of CNC machine cycle time per 4-piece set. So I can almost get 4-sets in an 8-hr day which I will quadruple when my new machine gets here. Keep in mind I’m a “one man band” so I’m eating my lunch, etc while the machines are in cycle. Thanks for asking.

Ron

Re: Added some door sill decoration.

Hello all ROC members,

Sill plate production has been postponed do to the fact that LadyRidge has informed us that these parts need some type of coating to protect them from road salts. It obviously does not snow here in California so we had not thought about it. I will update the ROC as soon as I get quotes back from the Powder-coating suppliers in my area. The door sill plates are machined from clear hard coat anodized 6061-T6 stock, however some of this stock is machined away during the process and needs protection from the elements. Thank you all for your patients, as we will not sell anything before it’s done right. We learn something new every day!

If you were only thinking of doing business with this man before, do you think you should have doubt or hesitation now?

Re: Added some door sill decoration.

Hey...they look great! I'll wait until after SEMA to start bugging you.

Are you going to have a version that just says Honda too? I have the floormats that have the Ridgeline plate on them and I think it might be overkill to have Ridgeline again. Any plans for stock Honda plates...meaning not a custom charge.

thanks

Re: Added some door sill decoration.

I have some sugestions about the finish of the door sill plates. You might consider getting them re-anodized (with a whole lot of color options) and of course powder coat is an option. But, becasue these are going to be recieveing a lot of impact type wear i believe that the powder coat will not last very long.
Some other options would be a polyester based clear coat, or make them out of stainless, this of course would increase the price and machine time -- but they would be essentailly bullet proof.

Of course since the current sills are aluminum they should hold up well to wear and tear -- except if they get wet -- if they begin to turn chalky or get little spots of white just take a little bit of sand paper to them, finish it up with steel wool and they will be good as new.

How do i know this? I am the production mamager at an aluminum foundry where we make all kinds of boring industrial stuff plus sculpture for artists so we have a lot of experience dealing with this finish issue.
one more idea -- you could plate them -- then they could come in all sorts of kick ass finishes ... and nickel is impossible to tarnish

Re: Added some door sill decoration.

snowman, I am surprised. I would expect baked on powder coat to be extremely durable and anodizing to easily scratch.

Re: Added some door sill decoration.

So, do these sills fit over the existing ones? Or do you remove the existing sills first?
