Trunk Dividers - DIY in 10 minutes

Working off something posted in the discussions of Gary Flint's presentation, I decided to chop up a scrap of 1/4" luan plywood I had lying around. Here's the results & a template. (Somebody who has a "real" set of Honda dividers might do us all a favor & trace a better template!)

I do suggest that you make a cardboard mock-up, since I think it could be 0.5 cm longer at the top. The only "trick" is that the angle for the front (cab-end) is steeper than the one for the back (bumper-end). I haven't painted it yet, but probably will put some flat black on it at one point or another. Only made one, since its main job is to give me a little space to the right of the "Ridgeline" Igloo cooler.

BTW, they do not fit all the way to the bottom floor of the trunk. Do the "official" Honda accessory dividers fit to the floor?

Thanks for doing the pioneering on this, djeaux. For those more comfortable working with inches the converted dimensions are:
53.5 cm = 21 1/16"
51.0 cm = 20 1/16"
13.0 cm = 5 1/8"
1.5 cm = 19/32"
1.0 cm = 13/32"

Re: Trunk Dividers - DIY in 10 minutes

You know, this might be better than the factory ones from Honda.
Seems like the OEM dividers tend to bow after a while.
This is my 2nd set after I returned the 1st one for the same reason.

And remember, measure with a micrometer, mark with chalk & cut with a chainsaw. (Seriously, keep in mind that the kerf on a circular saw is about 1/16".) As I said before, it's probably a good idea to make a cardboard template & fine tune it before producing any sawdust.

Re: Trunk Dividers - DIY in 10 minutes

Off topic, but I have to pass this on. My dyslexia is apparently alive and well tonight!

The title of this thread is "Trunk Dividers - DIY in 10 minutes", but while scanning the new messages I read it as, "Drunk Drivers - DIY in 10 minutes". So I immediately clicked on it!

I think I need professional help (and I don't even drink).

If you have any bowing problems with the plywood you can stiffen them by attaching a small piece of molding such a 1/2" x 1" along the top edge of the divider.

Hey, don't fret, I've been reading that "Green Ridgeline Rollcall" thread as "Green Ridgeline Recall" for a week!

On the bowing front, I don't think the 1/4" luan plywood will bow, but I'll check periodically & report back if it does. Thinking about it, a very tight fit might encourage bowing. I don't know about the OEM trunk dividers but the OEM console dividers are really tightly wedged in there... The plywood I cut is firm but not wedged in the slots.

Re: Trunk Dividers - DIY in 10 minutes

Great solution for compartments. I considered your approach, but what was really needed for me was smallish compartments with open tops to hold various objects, nails, parts, etc. This was my extremely inexpensive & quick solution. Plastic coffee cans (two sizes) + duct tape. "Crude but effective."

Re: Trunk Dividers - DIY in 10 minutes

Dividers were one of the first mods I did on the Ridgeline. I borrowed one of the dividers from the Ridgeline that was in the dealer showroom and traced it on a piece of cardboard. I used aluminum instead. No bowing at all. Used a band saw to cut the pieces out. Took me way more than 10 minutes...... more like a few days. I wish you had posted the measurements about a year ago. It would have saved me from looking like a goof at the dealership. Actually, the salesperson encouraged me to make a template of the OEM dividers. Up here in Canada, Honda accessories are very costly. I was told the dividers were close to 85 bucks!

Again, great info, djeaux.
