Mt. Diablo (East SF Bay Area) Meet Saturday!

Got to meet a handful of NorCal/ROC owners today, and it certainly was a pleasure to put a name with a face. And as someone else this morning said, it was the most Ridgelines I'd ever seen in one place.

We met up on Mt. Diablo -- it was very windy, so the air was clear and the view was tremendous, but the wind made it a bit chilly.

We had two blues (vrtrkr and dsowell), two reds (mine and exA4's), a white (psango), and a green (Dragonslayer). Dragonslayer's hood decal is pretty snazzy -- good work, Ladyridge!

I only have a few pictures to post -- I'm sure someone else today got much better pictures, and will post them soon.

Again, I enjoyed meeting you all, including Chelsea the dog, and I hope to see you again in September.

Re: Mt. Diablo (East SF Bay Area) Meet Saturday!

Beautiful! I'm glad you had such a fine turnout. I look forward to more photos. Did you go to lunch together or do anything else besides go to the top of the mountain?

It's such fun to get to know other ROCers. I hope more people will organize and/or attend ROC meets this summer.

I look forward to more reports and photos of your meet.

I'm gutted. 18 months ago I lived in San Francisco and my girlfriend lived in Concord about 10 minutes from Mt Diablo. Would loved to have been there with y'all.

It was great fun!

Here is a link to a new thread with pix. Probably should have posted here first.

Re: Mt. Diablo (East SF Bay Area) Meet Saturday!

Rather than start a new thread, I thought that I would revive this one and use it to promote our up coming second Northern California meet. This May on Saturday the 26th. Last year 5 of us made this meet with myself coming from the farthest north at 90 miles from the Oregon border.

The views are wonderful, on a clear day you can see for almost 300 miles away. You can see the entire bay area from Redwood city, San Jose over to S. F. to the San Pablo bay up the straits to Pittsburg, Antioch and around to Stocton, Brentwood and back to Dublin and San Ramon.

The mountain has numerous trails for hiking and many camp grounds with beautiful vistas that make for fantastic photo opps . If you want a camp site for the weekend it is best to show up at the gates before noon on Friday. That means that I will be leaving here at 5 am on Friday. There are some nice camp grounds with showers and restrooms. and if I remember from growing up in Pittsburg and going to Mount Diablo State Park; there are some camp grounds such as Turtle Rock Ranch that are really nice and have a heated swimming pool. One can bring ones dogs, but they must remain on a leash at all times ( wild life; racoons, ground squirrels etc.) or in the car or the tent at your camp site. Chelsea enjoyed going, it was her first meet. When you are at the top , you feel like you are on top of the world, if you are an avid photographer ( bongus, lets talk F828 ) bring plenty of memory for your cameras or if you have not gone digital yet, plenty of film, with a good tripod one can get a 360 degree shot of the whole bay area.

I suggest that if you have Safari or Firefox to Google Mount Diablo State Park and you will get all the information that you will need to get there, choose a camp ground, history of the park and overhead views of the secondary overflow parking lot below the summit (3849') observatory and its parking lot. The lower parking lot can accomodate well more than 20 or 30 cars and still leave room for other park visitors. If you really want to see how your rl handles a mountain road like our great grandfathers did in their day, you will want to try the drive up to the top, it is fun .

I look forward to seeing everybody from last year and meeting new members and enthusiasts of the ridgeline.
Martin

Re: Mt. Diablo (East SF Bay Area) Meet Saturday!

Thanks for reviving the thread Martin. So far my schedule is open that day. I can't do the camping thing but I will drive up Saturday morning. So everyone from the East Bay should easily make this meet unless you have a really, really good excuse. I guess as we get closer to the date, we can have more specifics about meeting time, photo ops, talk and chat time maybe some lunch?

Re: Mt. Diablo (East SF Bay Area) Meet Saturday!

Congratulations should be in order for you bongus, you have been a roc member for 2 years now. Google Mount Diablo for info and open Google earth to get an arial view of the parking lot at the summit and the overflow below it. Last year since I had arrived the afternoon before , I was at the parking lot in advance of everyone else arriving. If I can , I am trying to get my neice and nephew with their children and spouses to join us , they don't drive rls, yet.

Re: Mt. Diablo (East SF Bay Area) Meet Saturday!

So far I have found 43 members in the bay area not including myself. I sent 19 pm's and 23 e-mails, one member said he was going before I messaged anyone. I have seven yes's with mine, five maybe and two can't make it. Three of the six last year , with me, are returning. A little more than a month to go , we may still end up with as many as the all cal roc meet in Santa Cruz. I will be at the overflow parking lot below the summit by 10 am, if not a little sooner, I am camping overnight on the mountain as I did last year.
