Off roading in the Ridge

So, I have the new Ridgeline - my buddy had mocked the "girly truck" but had an occassion to eat his words this past weekend. A planned hunting day was in danger of being called off as my buddy sheepishly explained that his F150 was in the shop for (yet another) repair - I offered to drive and WOW ! to both our surprise the Honda performed magnificently on all the logging roads and moderate real off-road in the area south of Hope BC just north of the border between BC and Washington state. Some 30 degree climbs over disused logging roads were no problem and the short wheelbase made crossing swales easier than in a full size pick up. Paint handled gravel well and the 8" clearance was just enough for the day ( would have liked 10" but c'est la vie ). Overall, a totally impressive truck that exceeded expectations. Not so much commentary on the way home about Honda making a "girly truck" either !

Re: Off roading in the Ridge

great post.

glad to hear the RL handled the terrain.

Funny the "manly" Ford was stuck in the shop. What good is a allegedly "manly" truck if it is in the shop all the time?

Just read the last three pages, and pay attention to posts made by blaster21996. Wow. Verly homophobic comments, all made at a TRUCK?!?

Awesome story. I've taken my Ridgeline Off-Road some and it is a BLAST when you know where to take it and how to drive it.

As an experienced "off roader" (work), I can attest that the vehicle is a very capable climber, especially in VSA off/VTM-4 on First gear.

"10 inches but c'est la vie"?? More like c'est la necessary! Be careful straddling protrusions and sharp V ditches/streams.

Man people can be so rude sometimes. What does sexual preference have to do with anything. I don't think the Ridge is gay. I have hot chicks from OU stare at me driven by all the time. My girlfriend loves the whole package. Everything about the truck: Ride, handling, pickup, utility and style. The Ridgeline is the future that's really what scares these traditional truckers.

I have to agree with your comments about sexual preferences, however, If the gentleman in the tundra post feel that is truck is manly and the rl is girly, I would have to question his sexual preferences, a male loving another male(truck) sounds kind of gay to me, I personally prefer women even if it is a truck.

I'm with Geotech. It needs 2 inches more clearance. I live in central Florida so no rocks to worry about but sometimes those palmetto heads rub up underneath. Otherwise its a really good offroad.

I had a young, gay, "cowboy" ask me this morning if I drove a Camaro. I said, "No, why?" He said, "I thought I saw you in a gold one the other day." I said, "Nope. Wasn't me. I drive a Honda Ridgeline." He responded, "That's a woman's truck."

Now, I've read a lot of posts about appropriate responses for many situations, but HOW in the heck would you handle THIS one? For reference, this was an online conversation that he initiated. I never responded to his opinion as I didn't have a good comeback. This kid also lives with and mooches off of some really old gay dude here in town. He doesn't even own a vehicle. I don't think he even has a job.

Ask him how could he put his boyfriend up to asking you something like that?

Response from SpartanML: It's called a joke, apologies if it offended anyone.

"Oh, it's a womans truck, huh? I guess that I'll have to go to the doctor and tell him to put my dick back on."

I'm a smartass when I don't have to be on the phones for work. Everyday at work I present myself with an almost perfect professional demeanor, but I have a tendency to say what I'd say online in person as well. I can also be very raucous.

Another approach is when he says some homosexual related comment about your vehicle, is to say something even MORE offensive back to him about his own vehicle. Usually someone to say those kind of comments online don't have the nerve to back it up in real life and I like to call people out. Boy, doing that can REALLY hit a nerve.

I'd also say to him "fine, you obviously have your own homophobic and distorted opinions, but they are your own."
