Re: Snow

I was wondering the same thing. And if so, in the trunk or just in the back? I had my RL out this pm in about 3.5" of snow and it handle incredibly well so there may not be any need.

Re: Snow

There is no need to add weight with the RL. This rig handles snow better than any conventional 4WD truck I have ever used. I have had several 4WD's from the big three.

Re: Snow

Chefelvis is right, it's front wheel drive. No weight needed. I got mine in February when snow was flying and I tried to made it slide. The VSA won't let you.

Re: Snow

Weight in the back of the Ridgeline is not required as the primary drive wheels are in the front. The AWD really only really works on starts and if there is slippage of the front tires (Unless the VTM-4 lock is on and the truck is in D1, D2, or reverse, and running under 18 mph). Fill up the gas tank, make sure the tires and spare tire are ready for use, fill the windshield wiper fluid bottle, take a cup of cocoa or coffee, then take your time getting to your destination.

What I put in my truck for trip in winter driving conditions is the following:
  1. Long handled brush / ice scraper.
  2. Small shovel.
  3. Small Bag of kitty litter (Traction aid on ice).
  4. First aid kit.
  5. Flares (I carry twelve).
  6. Two 2"x8"x30" planks (For the jack to rest on or to use as make shift ramps if required).
  7. Small tool kit (Phillips and flat head screw divers, sockets, open end wrenches that will fit most jos like battery terminals, ect).
  8. Large thick blanket.
  9. Candles.
  10. Gallon jug of water.
  11. 50' length of tow strap (In addition to my snatch strap).
  12. Air tank (5 Gallon filled to 140psi of nitrogen).
  13. Small air compressor.
  14. Spare money clip with $20.00US.
  15. Four walky talkies in case someone needs to be outside the truck guiding the driver and for the two kiddos, my wife, and me.
If I need the trunk, these items go into a storage box that I secure in the bed via the tie downs at the front of the bed.

Are the winter driving conditions really that bad in Texas?

We generaly do not have snow per say. What happens here in the DFW area at least is it snows, melts and re-freezes as ice on the roadway. Snow is somewhat easy to drive in. Ice on the other hand is the great equalizer as everyone has trouble with ice (Unless you vehicle is equipped with studded ice tires which are illegal for Texas roadways). Also keep in mind that I only pack the ice crap if I am going over 100 miles in distance. I also forgot to add that I carry a hatchet as well

Well with the hatchet and the nitrogen I can just hear people now, "Gee officer, he had a real funny high voice and carried a hatchet and a candle...really scary! I think it was the ghost of christmas past..."
