4x4 in the desert

Hi all off roaders, I'm a new ridgeline 4x4 user and tried my ridge off roading in the desert and we had a blast. How should we know if the 4x4 kicks in? There was no light on my dask panel or on the 4x4 switch. The 4x4 must work as all 4 wheels were spinning together and we did not get stuck. Thanks ahead.. sandridge
