Smile Pilot held its value and then some!

My wife and I have 3 young kids (all in car seats/boosters). Six months ago her suburban died for good. We decided to give something smaller a try so we purchased her a brand new 06 Pilot Ex.

Anyway we started regretting the purchase soon after we bought it because we were having a hard time adjusting to the smaller size with the kids and all the stuff that goes along with them. In addition when the dog is in the car there isn't room for much else. We have been thinking about getting a second dog and I decided that the Pilot just wasn't going to cut it if we did.

We used to own an 03 Expedition which we both really liked so I started doing some poking around a few weeks ago to see what was going on with the 07's. Turns out they have made some great improvements to them and all the safety features that were standard on our Pilot are now also standard on the Expedition. Ford has a $2000 rebate on them right now so I made up my mind to release the Pilot and get another Expedition.

The point of all of this is to say how pleased I am with how the Pilot held it's value. I bought it new six months ago and was able to sell it for a $500 profit after we drove it for six months and put 9k on it.

I think that is the only car I've even owned that I made money on. The RL and Pilot are the first Honda's I've ever owned so I don't know if it is normal for them to hold such a high value but I do know others (Jeep's, Ford's, etc) I've owned have all lost thousands after I brought them home.

Congrats on your luck with the resole of the Pilot. Good luck with your Ford... I am sure your wife will enjoy the extra room.

Re: Pilot held its value and then some!

Rented an 07 Expedition for a week in January. Eddie Bower edition... very nice everything! Smooth ride, responsive, well laid out, softer more managble bells and whistles instead of the usual mind boggling sounds Fords offer. Very impressed with the new Expedition. It was also very roomy and alot of fun to drive. I don't care what anyone says, Ford has definatly made an effort to improve their vehicles. It is a nice SUV and I would buy one in a heartbeat over a GMC or a Dodge. Bottom line is congrats on the resale and best of luck with the Ford!
