My Sunday Ride

I thought I should get around to posting a pic of my sunday ride - Annabelle.

She's a '53 Mercury Meteor Customline - a true survivor- all original.

Annabelle has been in my family since new! (my grandfather bought her new in Manitoba in '53 and recently left her to me). I pulled her off of the transport truck only a month ago and can't wait for some warm pebble free weather (up here salt and gravel wreak havoc on cars nearly seven months a year, and the street cleaners don't roll out until around may) .

I'm thinking that Annabelle is one of the few Ford (Merc) products worthy of being posted on the ROC! Can you make out the ride beside her? My first Ridge line - recently replaced by my second!

Re: My Sunday Ride

Now that is one beautiful ride. Looks awesome.

Now, put that baby on a trailer behind the Ridgeline and get a picture of that.

Re: My Sunday Ride

That's sure a beautiful ride! full of nostalgia and very rare.
I know what you mean about winter roads. I wouldn't take her out yet either.
Too valuable to expose her to salt & grime.
Does she have the 239 CID flathead or the larger Mercury version? Ford-O-Matic or three on the tree? I love all of those early fifties cars.

Thumbs up Re: My Sunday Ride

Hello Annabelle and welcome to the ROC! You bring back fond memories of my first car, born the same year that you were - a '53 Buick Special 2-door hardtop (white, of course) named Betsy with the straight 8 and three on the tree! Bought her for $300 in '59 (from my dad as that's what they offered him as a trade-in), with money I earned baling hay the previous summer, and sold her for $500 in '61 when I bought a '59 Chevy Impala convertible (also white, but with a bright red interior). Betsy was a great car (the analog dash clock still kept perfect time and the doors, hood & trunk closed with a very solid thunk!) but something of a gas hog (10 mpg as I recall but, heck, gas was only $0.25/gal so who cared?). Can't wait to see more pics!

Re: My Sunday Ride

I love Annabelle! Got to admit, I've been a lover of classic autos since I was about 8 years old. Love seeing all kinds. Here's a pic of my Sunday ride. This is "Red Chief"...a 1947 Chevy pickup. Sure do get some smiles when I drive it around.

Re: My Sunday Ride

Don't drive it on Sunday, but would love to. It is stored at my Mother's house several states away from where I live. 1929 Ford Model A Pickup fully restored by my Dad.

Re: My Sunday Ride

man, those are two very sweet vintage pickups . . . perhaps you could trailer them to Columbus in June so we could peruse them in more detail? (hint, hint)

WOW! That's an awesome truck! Now THAT would be one cool Sunday cruiser. Hope you get it in YOUR garage soon.
