Navi Screen in the cold...

Looking for some input from Navi owners who experience cold mornings...
So this moring my truck was a little cold. It was about in the 40's which is about 10 degrees warmer than yesterday morning.

Anyway, I started up my truck and clicked on the OK button on my Navi but the screen doesn't seem to be as bright as it normally is. My concern is after about 20 minutes, it still appeared more dim than usual. I let the car sit for almost 2 hours in 50+ degrees and still it doesn't appear to be as bright as normal.

I didn't change any settings as I always have it in DAY mode... and my brightness is still set to where it has been...

Has anybody noticed any behavior like this in the cold?

Thanks...

Re: Navi Screen in the cold...

I've commented on this problem early this spring and it seems that nobody else had experienced it. Thank God I'm not alone. I asked the dealer and his comment was that it's normal and should it get worse, they'll replace the screen ass'y. Funny I never noticed this problem when I passed thru the entire cold canadian winter at sub-zero temps.

Therefore, I pulled out my trusty Honda Ridgeline service manual and turned to the navigation troubleshooting section to see if maybe I could find something that begs to differ with the dealer's comments. Page 23-63 states, "In cold temperatures, the display may stay dark for the first 2 or 3 minutes until it warms up". 2 or 3 minutes...I can live with but not 10-12.

Let me know if your situation worsens as I may just ask my dealer to swap mine out with a new unit.

Re: Navi Screen in the cold...

Sorry... although I've experienced temps in the high 20's-low 30's the last coupla days inna mornings, I've not seen any degradation of the LCD.
Suffice to say I've been watchin'-out for it, because of previous knowledge of this inherent problem with these kinds of displays.

What would I do?

First... I'd check my settings... again.

Then, I'd tilt/flip the screen to reveal the CD player and "massage" anything having to do with the mechanical aspects of the screen.

Then, I'd make sure that I was getting adequate power to the display.
How to do that? I dunno... I'd hafta do a search, I guess.
Good Luck,
Pug

Re: Navi Screen in the cold...

Thanks for the responses... Yesterday it was fine later in the day and this morning it was fine so I'll keep an eye on it...
Ya Pug, despite not personally changing any settings, I did go in and check that...

I'll be watching...

Re: Navi Screen in the cold...

I remember reading somewhere that there are usually micro heating elements in outdoor LCD display screens. I checked the manual but found nothing of the sort as far as the mechanics of the screen itself. Perhaps one of these heating elements has crapped out?

Interesting... I've noticed it before but it usually kicks back up. This time it didn't until later in the day and then it was fine today. I'll take it morning by morning... Just something else to keep my eye on...

Re: Navi Screen in the cold...

My screen is unreadable in the cold (<15F) in daylight until the screen warms up 5-8 minutes later.

Re: Navi Screen in the cold...

10degF Friday morning... the screen looked a little "washed-out", but after a couple minutes, it was up to it's normal brightness. I can now see where others have had problems. The temps didn't stay that low around here, very long (maybe 8-10hrs). When it's been around 20degF, I've seen no lack in the contrast like I did Friday.

Re: Navi Screen in the cold...

Haven't seen this yet, but I don't have the Navi on all the time either.

I did notice on colder mornings the CD player will skip.
