Maybe it didn't work out because you still come here to get advice.

I don't think you can get break in oil from a dealer, it's only put in at the factory.

So...I am curious....do we change it or leave it like they say??? I'm not saying I don't have to use the break in oil....I'm female, I'll wear something low cut and go get myself a case....but I still think the waiting til 5000 miles thing is crazy!!!
It depends on who you choose to believe. On one hand, there's Honda with years and years of R&D, field testing, millions of cars on the road, racing experience, etc. On the other hand you have the opinions of us forum members, your friends and acquaintances, and maybe even some dealer personnel. While some of us have a lot of experience in the automotive field and some of us just know how to drive, all we have is our opinions which are not backed up by research and development. And a lot of our experience dates back to when engine building on much lower technical plane than it is now. Add to that the oil companies drilling into us that the oil needs to be changed every 3,000 miles. It's not just Honda that is recommending extended oil changes any more. It's pretty much industry wide. Our Toyota, for example, has recommended changes of 5,000 miles, including the first one. Toyota does not have a MM, so they use a set figure that they know is safe. So pick a side and go with it. But ask yourself first, why do you think waiting 5,000 miles is crazy?
Is that something low cut you are going to wear black to match your RL?

Believe me..you gotta see the humor in my writing more than the LITERAL meaning. Dating advice from the ROC is about as valuable as it would be from the EOC I just like to make light of life in general... I hope that comes across

As far as the oil change...hmmm. Maybe honda tech will log on and answer this question for me eventually. I do like all the input tho.

As far as the low cut outfit...I always keep the fashion in line with the car color Can't have a nickname like SheDevil and not live up to the image dahlink

Go ahead and PM Honda Tech. He'll respond. With all due respect to all the wonderful people here on the forum, HT is (after all) the Pro! His credentials back up his advice.

Personally, I'm following the MM on the break-in period. I'd think Honda would know a whole lot more about their engines than most any of us here on the forum. (certainly myself!!!!)

And, yes, we luv dem pics!!!!!

Right on both counts. It's funny how people will state the Honda is the best engine builder in the world and then go on to second guess and disagree with their methods. Break in is incorrect, the MM is bogus, the exhaust is a hokey design, the cold air intake really isn't,
etc, etc. Honda engineers must be the dumbest smart engineers on the planet.

It's also been mentioned many times on this forum that the breakin additive is molydemum.
Nice to know I'm right! On BOTH accounts. And you sum it up well, as usual.

I wonder if they use a high moly oil in their 19K rpm F1 engines.

But to your point. The fact that Honda engine guys are the best, doesn't mean they are giving the advice that would make their own engines last longest. What it does probably mean... is that the their advice gives the best engine life for the normal population of users.

How does that apply? For instance, no one can argue that you can change your engine oil too often. Take the same population and change their oil at 1K miles. Engine life for the populaton will go up.

The fact that we can't replace the Honda formulation with the same formulation creates the quandry for those of us that know the above fact.

Kapiche?

Re: Honda Tech and Ridge owner here to help.

I wonder where the factory oil is actually added. I assume that is done in Canada, before shipment. Same place and time they add the 40 psi tire pressure. Correct?

He tells me waiting 5000 miles to change the oil in my RL for the first time is ludacris. He's got 3 kabillion certs and I know he knows what he's talking about...PLUS it kinda seems sensible to say that a lot of debris in your oil will be from the engine settling in. He said to absolutely change it in 500 miles...and then follow the break in guidelines. My question is....why would we wait 5000 miles for the first change??? I really need to know this. Ok its not a need....but it's a want.
The break-in period is highly recommended. If you want to dump the oil at 500 miles, go for it. It will probably not change anything over the life of the vehicle one way or another. For me, I will follow the recommended maintenance. It comes from the manufacturer....and they truely know best. There isn't some underlying plot to ruin your engine after you are past warranty.
